Another First Day Back Post
Dec 28th 2007
The first day back from vacation is always horrible. No exceptions. Which is why yesterday I had such a hard time concentrating at work. It was extremely hard for me to keep my mind on one task at a time which wasn't good yesterday because of the fact that I was working on something that was a little complex and I kept losing my place and having to start over from the beginning again. Sigh. I hope today is going to be better.
After work though, things went a bit better. I did my exercising while starting to watch Cowboy Bebop which has potential right now, but it's hard to tell so early into it. Then I sat down and played Xenogears, which I've come to realize again, is probably my favorite game ever. Such a cool story, and you can always pull something different out of it each time you play it. I'm about 1/3 of the way though the game (20 hours in or so) and things are just starting to get really really good.
On the school front, I was still unable to contact who I needed to contact. On my Rogues airbags front, I haven't heard anything about the parts being in. I'm probably going to call up this morning since my work phone was acting wonky for a couple days and may not have recorded the message if they left one. I'd like to have airbags at some point here.
Super Fast Shipping
Apr 7th 2007
Somehow, the copy of Xenogears I purchased off of eBay on Wednesday arrived in the mail yesterday. Super fast shipping! And it's practically mint condition too. The warranty registration card is still folded up in the manual.
Best. Game. Ever.
I'm going to play through it again after I finish playing Final Fantasy VII which I'm really enjoying right now. I'm about 15 hours in or so.
Plans for today include swinging by a local pet store to do some browsing to figure out how much this whole fish plan might cost me. I do really want fish. I can't really explain why, but I want em! Wassy's coming over this afternoon for the fish browsing and some more fun and disturbing chobits viewing.

An Oasis in the Desert
Apr 5th 2007
My week, to put it mildly, has been horrible. Work related things…school related things…general blah like feeling. So I was glad when the opportunity came up to go out with my friends last night and relax a little bit. We went out to Zebb's and then went back to their place to watch some anime that Wassy is trying to corrupt me into liking. Chobits is actually pretty good. I don't like most anime, but certain things I have gotten into. This might be one of them.
I also picked up my PS1 memory card from her that she tracked down for me. I bought Final Fantasy VII over the weekend and forgot I didn't have a PS1 memory card to play it with, so I've been using their pocketstation temporarily. She stopped by a used game store on her way home the other day and found one for me. I was hoping the previous owner had some interesting save game files on there, but they only had two saves for Tactics Ogre, whatever that is. (UPDATE: I have been informed that this is actually a good game. Go figure.)
I've also got a copy of Xenogears coming my way from eBay, now that I actually have a memory card to use with it.
On the subject of fish…I'm wavering a bit. I'm not really sure if I have a good place to stick anything other than a smallish bowl and I don't really want to do that. But on the other hand, I really, really want to set something up. Arrgh!

QoTD: Top 5 Video Games
Nov 15th 2006
What’s on your Top 5 video games list?
Submitted by mileena.
- Xenogears – A friend turned me onto this under-appreciated gem of a game for the playstation released in 1998 by Square. It has the most intricate story that I’ve ever experienced in a video game, taking around 60 or so hours to complete without doing any optional side stuff. I was playing it using an emulator at the time, and I got to just before the final dungeon and…my computer crashed and I reformated without saving my game. after 56 hours of playing. But I didn’t mind. Going through the story again really helped clear some things up. It’s really a game that you need to play twice because a lot of the stuff in the beginning makes a whole lot more sense after you go through it and learn the reasonings.
- Lunar: Silver Star Story – Another friend (the wife of the friend mentioned above), upon learning that I was going to get a Playstation 2, she decided to shower me with classic games to borrow. Included in the stack was the two Lunar games. I really enjoyed the first one, and the second was good too, but didn’t really meet the level of the first for me. The best part about Silver Star Story was, well, it’s story. (Warning, slight spoilers ahead!) It may appear to be your standard “Peasant guy gets sucked up into a evil plot of world domination and has to put a stop to it”, but really, the saving the world part is a side effect of the love story plotline. It’s really nice how it’s set up. The character development is also worth special mention. As you move through the story, you really start to care about what happens to the characters.
- City of Heroes - I was debating including this, but I figure that I have to. I’ve spent about 2 years playing this game almost nonstop. It’s the Anti-MMO. No Loot, Limited crafting, fast paced battle system and a comic-book focus keep me interested. I’m into a period of burnout right now, but I see myself playing it for a while to come still.
- Freespace 2 – This was one of the most under-rated games of all time. I’m not sure if underrated is the right word, exactly, but it definitly didn’t get the attention it deserved due to poor advertising efforts on the part of Interplay. Freespace 2 was, in my opinion, the best of the space combat simulation games. It had awesome graphics and a very cool story line to tie things all together. As you go through the missions, you’re never quite sure what could happen. A simple cargo transfer mission could turn into an explosion, you could be tasked to intercept asteroids one minute and the repel an attack the second. One of the coolest missions is a game of cat and mouse in side s nebula where an electrical storm is interfering with your sensors. You’re flying almost blind, trying to find a missing comrade when you come across something unexpected in the haze.
- Starcraft – I’m not one for real time strategy games usually, but I spent a lot of time with Starcraft when I was in high school. I played multiplayer with some of my classmates usually (Over dialup modem. Old school style!)
I really considered placing Final Fantasy XII at the #5 spot instead of starcraft, but I haven’t finished it yet, so I figure that it’s not far to list it there. Who knows, it might take a turn for the worse…but so far, it looks like Starcraft is going to get bumped right off
Xenosaga 3 Out?
Sep 8th 2006
I apologize for going all geeky here these past couple of entries. I’ll get back to recording the mundane details of my life soon enough
I was just informed by a friend that Xenosaga III for the PS 2 is out in the US now. For those not familiar with the Xenosaga series, well..you didn’t miss much. It’s a followup to a much better game, published by Square called Xenogears. Well, really they’re unofficial prequils. It’s rather hard to explain the relationship. Anyway, Xenogears has probably the best storyline in any game I’ve ever played. It’s about 60-70 hours long in true Japanese RPG fashion, however it doesn’t feel that long, always keeping you interested in a story that has so many twists and turns that playing through it again to catch everything that’s happening is recommended. If you haven’t played Xenogears…stop reading this now and go do it. It’s incredible.
Anyway, Xenosaga isn’t. The first one was all right…the second one was torture. One of the worst games I ever played, but I finished it because of it’s connection to Xenogears. And now episode 3 is actually out and people say it’s pretty good.
I think I’ll be picking it up tonight. I’m a glutton for punishment
