Dreading The Afternoon
Jan 9th 2007
Today’s the day of the big Macworld keynote, my first since becoming what could only be described as a switcher. I’m not sure how it happened, but after getting my MacBook Pro, I’ve slid pretty far into the Apple camp. This isn’t anything I would have said a few years ago, being a die-hard PC guy.
Anyway, I’m afraid of the afternoon because I’m terrified Steve is going to get up on stage an announce something that I absolutely need to have when I’m trying to save money for the DC trip in march.
Speaking of the DC trip, we finally got hotel reservations after a little hiccup with travelocity over the weekend. I’m fairly certain I’m not going to use them again, considering they passed off the standard hotel rates as their special negotiated discount rates and because of that, required payment up front in full when I could have just gone to the hotels website directly and got the same rate without needing to pay until the trip actually happened. Granted that was sort of my fault as well for not reading the fine print, but it still strikes me as a little sleazy.
Ok, Time To Stop Spending Money
Sep 20th 2006
I’m now determined to force myself into conservative spending mode. After the iPod purchase, of course I had to pick up a couple of accessories…such as a case for it to protect it from scratches. My current case has some zippers inside closing off various compartments. However, those zippers can scratch the face of the player, so I figured with my new black iPod which will show scratches even more, I should get something that didn’t have metal objects inside the case.
I also grabbed a Universal Dock. I’m a big fan of the iPod dock, since it’s a place to just drop it in to charge and sync without having to fish the cable out of somewhere. Also lowers the chances of the device flying off the table. I’ve gotten used to having a dock anyway, since my first iPod came with one. My current dock works, but since the new iPod is smaller than my old 60GB one, it’s very wobbly. Hopefully with the new universal dock thing they’re doing now, I won’t have to shell out again for another dock later down the line…
Anyway, I think that’s quite enough spending for now…conservative spending mode on! Lets see how long my willpower will last this time…
And if you’re getting tired of iPod posts, then…well…give me a few days. I’m on an iPod kick right now.
I’m Pathetic

…and $350 poorer. Remember that thing I posted a while ago about not having any willpower?
Well um…Apple just announced new iPods and um…lets just say I lasted a grand total of 40 minutes before I broke down and placed an order for a 80GB…in Black.
Rationalization phase here:
My current iPod is breaking down (still have to whack it on the back every so often), I really like the new UI stuff they’ve done with the iPod and, well…I’m a sucker. I do really use it. I rarely go anywhere without my iPod with me.
Willpower and Me
Aug 19th 2006
I have no willpower. Ask my friends. They’ll tell you about how I can rationalize anything. How I went from going to buy a MacBook Pro in “a few months” on Monday to being in the Apple Store on Saturday, $2000 poorer. My soft spot is mice or input devices. If it’s cool, I MUST have one. That’s the reason I just got a MX1000 to replace a perfectly good Logitech G7.
I have no willpower. I know when I start rationalizing things, and I know that I shouldn’t be buying some of the stuff I do. But I do it anyway. No idea why.
So the latest object of my desire is a digital camera. The Vox Hunt kinda pushed along my buying process a bit. I want a real camera, as I’m getting tired of having to take pictures with my phone. My phone could have a worse camera, I know…but it’s not really that good either. The reason I mention this is I went out this afternoon to the store to buy some breakfast cereal and almost came home with a digital camera. I say almost because good sense kicked in just at the last moment.
I figured it might be a good idea to do some research first instead of just grabbing one that looked nice. Also, I still owe my parents money from when they helped me pay for my car transmission breaking apart. So anyway, I’m looking around for a digital camera in the $100 to $150 on a digital camera. Nothing fancy, mind you…just something that’ll take pictures that look good. Working on OS X is a plus, although I guess they would all kinda work. I guess I’ll look around some.
But if I write in this blog that I bought a digital camera in the next week or so, somebody smack me please.
