The Search For The Wii Continues

0

Still no luck on the Wii front. I was convinced to try and camp out for one on Sunday, but a quick check with the local stores revealed that they won’t be selling any more until the 17th, by which time I’ll be fighting crazy parents to get one. I’d much rather keep trying my luck online or after Christmas.

Next time something like this happens I’m just going to camp for a pre-order, that’s for sure.

I’m headed out to Syracuse for the afternoon/evening tomorrow with some friends to do some shopping at the big mall there. And to have dinner at Olive Garden. Who knows, maybe something will fall into my lap (Aka, a Wii) because I’m not going to be looking. I hear the best way find one is to not look for it and let it come to you.

I spent an entirely too large amount of my time today playing Suikoden V on the Playstation 2. The story in this game rocks. I keep playing just to see what might happen next. Highly recommended so far, if you’re into the story driven RPG.

And The Strangest Place To Get a Wii Goest To…

The Home Depot! (EDIT: Bah, the link is bad…home depot’s site is weird)

I just came across this on the amazon forums. I can’t believe they’re even thinking about selling them there. Of course, they don’t have any in stock, but…if they do…I’m ready to pounce.

I wonder who the heck first found that one out. You’ve gotta be pretty desperate to randomly search for Wii on the home depot website.

The Weekend Rundown

0

So I haven’t posted much at all this weekend because I was too darn busy to write something down. So here’s a post covering the three days of my weekend.

Friday

I had the day off because I took every Friday off until the end of the year, plus December 26th to use up some vacation time I had before it vanishes at the end of the year. So I basically stayed home and played Suikoden V and hoped that somebody on the internet would get some Wii’s in stock because I’m actively trying to find one at this point. Towards the end of the day, target and amazon actually got their bundle in stock, but I held off because I’m not sure if I wanted the contents of the bundle and I was planning on trying to score a Wii Sunday morning at Target anyway.

Saturday

Today I had plans. Lots of plans. However, the first thing I want to mention is an emergency cheese run.

I had a bit of a crisis, since I wanted to make a sandwich and had no cheese. You can’t really have a good sandwich without cheese! So I went to the store to get some. I went to check out in the express, 15 items or less lane and there’s two people in front of me. The person actually paying was an older woman who pulled out a wad of coupons and double coupon things from the paper. In fact…she might have clipped every coupon in the entire newspaper ad. So we spend roughly 10 minutes sorting through all of her coupons so she could save 50 cents on orange juice. I swear, if she pulled out a checkbook…

The next person in front of me was a little kid buying a stuffed animal of some sort. The cashier asks for his advantage savings card thing and he then proceeds to yell across the store to his mother asking her if he can use her card. At this point, I pull out my card and hand it to the cashier and told her that he can use mine. So FINALLY I get checked out and leave the store. Waited about 15 minutes in the express lane for that.

So later that afternoon, I went to meet up with some friends to play some Wii/XBox 360/PS2 games and just generally hang out. A plan was worked out for the weekend where I would stay overnight at one of my other friends places since they’re closer to Target than I am and I was going to be over there Sunday, on call for helping out with a school project that involved some PHP web programming anyway. So that’s what happened. Cut to Sunday…

Sunday

Sunday I was awake at 5am, trying to get a Wii from Target, but I decided not to actually get up and going until 6 because I didn’t think there would be too much of a line. I get going, get to the store about an hour and 15 minutes before it opens and there’s already a line of, apparently 28 people. So I got in line, I’m number 29. The person in front of me turns around and said that we might be out of luck since the word is they only have 27 and the person in front of her is 27…but we waited it out just to make sure. They came out about 20 minutes later and confirmed they only have 27. I met another friend of mine in line behind me, so we took off to best buy to see if they were going to get any in.

We get to best buy around 7:20-ish and there’s one guy standing outside. My friend called his girlfriend and got her to check the Sunday paper ad and it wasn’t in there, so instead of waiting in line for an hour and 40 minutes in the freezing cold before the manager got there at 9 (the store opened at 10), I decided to just go back to my friends. Which ended up being a smart decision since they ended up not having any.

So I spent the day playing Zelda on my friends Wii, hanging out and not really helping out with the programming project because, as it turns out, I wasn’t really needed. But I had fun, as always hanging out and stuff.

The extreme fun of the weekend didn’t make coming back into work this morning any easier though. That set of annoyances, however, will be saved for another posting…

Insert Witty Topic Here

Had my friend over last night, which was fun. We grabbed some dinner from Applebees and then spent the rest of the evening playing the Nintendo Wii she brought over (I just can’t bring myself to make bad jokes with the name…)

I’ve determined that I’m hopeless when it comes to Zelda. I had to ask for help with the Tutorial section. Perhaps it would have gone better if I didn’t have an audience who already knew what to do, so I might give the game another try later down the line. I’ve also determined that my fitness age is somewhere in the upper 60s, I can’t hit home runs and I suck at baseball (which kinda goes with the home runs thing), boxing and tennis.

Ahhh…Relief

The Britney Spears christmas music I mentioned yesterday is nowhere to be found today. I think somebody figured out how to turn it off in here. Woohoo.

Tonight will mark the first ever time I’ve had someone other than immediate family over to my apartment to hang out for a bit, so I had to clean last night. A lot. Oh well, it gave me an excuse to clean the place up which I so desperately needed. This all came about when I was talking to said friend yesterday and she mentioned her husband was kicking her out of the house for the night (along with the Wii) so he could get some schoolwork done since it’s nearing the end of the semester and there’d been too much temptation to slack off otherwise, I guess. Anyway, I offered to play host for the evening, so she (and the Wii) is coming over tonight for a little while.

In other news, dentist’s are still evil. I believe I mentioned before that I had to back for an appointment to have…something…done. Well, I got a cavity filled today. I hate needles…ugh. Now the left side of my mouth is kinda sore, but that’s to be expected I guess. The numbness wore off a few hours ago finally.

My Arm Hurts!

0

I spent most of yesterday with some friends at their place playing with their Nintendo Wii (as well as a little Guitar Hero II sprinkled in). I have muscles in my arms that are hurting right now that I didn’t even realize I had. But I had a ton of fun and it really sold me on the viability of the Wiimote for controlling games. I’m hopefully going over to another friends house to play some more. Rayman is definitely going to get bought when I get my Wii.

I really want a Wii. I’m thinking I’ll get one in January when the rush slows down a bit. Although if I happen to find one before then, I won’t have any problems buying it.

I also finished Final Fantasy XII yesterday. My final impression was that it’s a good game. The combat system ROCKS. More games need to use that combat system. Heck, every game needs to use it. And if it’s already been released, they should re-release a version of it that uses that system. It’s about as close to perfect a system as I can think of.

Now I’m working on Suikoden V which is being lent out to me. Oh, and the DS version of Trauma Center. I played the Wii version last night and had fun, so I bought the Nintendo DS version.

Thanksgiving And More

0

I’ve been a bit busy/too lazy recently to update here, so I’m going to catch up on a couple days worth of activities here.

Thanksgiving was fun. I woke up that morning with dreams of getting myself a $100 XBox 360 from amazon.com due to a promotion they were running. Unfortunately, that wasn’t to be. The load crashed amazons servers for about 15-20 minutes and by the time I got in, it was sold out since they were only offering 1000 of them. Oh well, it was worth a try. Both my helpers came up empty too. (I had my dad and a friend of mine madly refreshing as well).

So I went over to my parents house in the morning to do the traditional Christmas decoration setup. We get the argument portion of the holiday over and done with there by arguing about the most efficient method of setting up the tree (as mentioned before, it’s a nice artificial one. Looks pretty real until you get close to it). During which, we watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and then I somehow convinced my dad to watch a little of the national dog show. Not that I really wanted to watch it myself. I just wanted to see if I could get him to do it.

Dinner was good. It’s been a long time since I’ve had turkey that wasn’t in a sandwich. My mom didn’t enjoy the cooking quite so much as we enjoyed the eating though. I have a feeling we’re going to be going out to eat again next year.

So Black Friday rolls around and I get the stupid idea to go out later in the afternoon to pick up some items, as well as check around and see if there happened to be a Nintendo Wii out there that had been overlooked in the mad rush. Of course there wasn’t. And it was still a mad rush out there. According to my sister who works at the Staples across the street from Best Buy, people were lining up there starting at 6PM thanksgiving day and by the time she got into work in the morning, the line had already gone way past several of the other stores in that same section of buildings. That’s just…nuts.

So this afternoon I’m going to a little gathering with some friends where we’re going to test out the party abilities of the Nintendo Wii. Been looking forward to this for a while. I guess we’re going to have 4 controllers and a bunch of game type things. My arm is going to be sooo sore tomorrow.

Too…Windy…

0

It’s been incredibly windy out today. The power has gone off twice as a result, which is kinda annoying. I got lucky the first time. I was playing some .hack on my PS2 and had just saved the game. 2 seconds later, the power goes out.

Today was the big Toys R Us Wii preorder thing that my friends were camping out for. They were first in line for it, and they got their preorder, after standing a couple hours outside in the freezing cold wind. They also apparently got caught in the crossfire of the people rushing to buy the new Tickle Me Elmo. Just figured I’d mention what happened since I brought it up earlier.

I went over to my parents briefly today as well. My mom was showing me this Hallmark christmas thing she bought that moves and sings some carol or something. I’m just glad I don’t live there anymore because I know my sister would be running by there every 5 minutes and punching the button to make it sing and dance.

Why are they selling christmas stuff already anyway?? It’s October! I swear, the holiday shopping season comes earlier every year.

Delivered!

0

.hack//G.U. was delivered today. Now all need to do is swing by my parents (I send all my large packages there) and pick it up.

I’ll be glad to get something new to play with. Today’s been quite the long, frustrating day, as has been the custom recently. I dunno if it’s really getting frustrating or if it’s just because of the same things grating on me and stressing me out after a while. That probably didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but I’d really rather not get into it in too much detail.

By the way, the friends that are going on the Wii campout on release day keep trying to get me to join them. Ain’t happening! First I’m not crazy, second I don’t have the money for a whole new console system plus games right now. But that’s not going to stop them from trying to convince me ;)

5 more minutes and then I’m out of here.

Mmmmm…Guitar Hero 2 Demo

0

I’ve been meaning to mention this for a while but last weekend I picked up the demo of Guitar Hero 2 for the Playstation 2 that’s available on the demo disc of the Official Playstation Magazine this month.

Wooo! Good stuff. Espically YYZ. I’m a big Rush fan and I was really happy to hear they included YYZ. It’s really, really complex, but it’s also fun “playing” a song that I know so well. Makes my hands hurt though after running through it. A friend of mine played it on a lower difficulty setting and said something to the effect that she heard all the notes she wasn’t playing and was scared. The Kiss song, Strutter I think, is also pretty fun to play.

I’m eagerly awaiting the release of the game in November, among other things. Like the Nintendo Wii. I just heard a couple of my friends (the same ones as mentioned above) are going to be camping out at Best Buy waiting for the midnight release. They’re nuts!
