Project Weight Loss: Week 7

0

Well, I'm running out of ways to say "so far so good" with these things because that's exactly what they've been.

This week it looks like my string of evenness during the week and drastic weekend drops has been broken, for now anyway. Also important to note is the fact that I managed to survive a dozen peanut butter cookies brought back from Pennsylvania by my Mom after she went down there for about a week last week.

I also survived getting a cold. Not really a bad one, just minor congestion and a sore throat, but it prevented me from exercising fully for a couple days there.

And since this concludes month 2 when I was keeping track…I present to you a summary of February

Project Weight Loss: Week 6

0

It's time again for last weeks weight loss project status report. This week kicked last week's long weekday plateau in favor of a slight gain back and then gradual losses.

The thing I'm surprised about the most this week is the weekend. On Saturday I went out to Syracuse with my friends (which will be detailed in a forthcoming post) and we went out to dinner at Chili's. I threw caution to the wind and had a little more than what I would normally have had, along with 2 glasses of strawberry lemonade. But as it turns out that didn't matter very much.

And this morning I passed my 20 pound mark, dipping down below 260 for the first time in a couple years.

Project Weight Loss – Week 5

0

If you'll notice, I'm starting to make the charts span the previous 2 weeks so it makes a little more sense. 1 week is too limited to show any progress.

This was the week of the great flattening. I seemed to have plateaued for most of the week, for unknown reasons. Over the weekend I varied my routine a bit and it looks like that did the trick as I've started dropping again this week. Also important to note that during the flat part, my body fat % was dropping according to my maybe not quite so accurate scale. So maybe that was a good thing.

Anyway, I've started to work more fruits into my diet for snacking and stuff, trying to get more natural nutrients instead of processed foods. This makes grocery shopping more of a challenge, but I really want to start eating more healthily.

I am starting to notice a change in how my clothes are fitting, as well as my stomach and arms (hey, look, there's some muscles there now!) so visible progress makes the whole thing worth while.

Project Weight Loss – Week 4

Another week, another graph. Nothing huge to report this week. I've started experimenting with different Tae Bo workouts through netflix to change things up a bit and keep things interesting, but I haven't found one I really liked yet.

Another thing to note is the fact that, finally, a large spike down was recorded on the graph. So it does exist! I'm hovering around 265ish now which is fine by me because it's better than hovering around 275ish.

My total is somewhere between 15 and 20 pounds depending on where I measure my starting point. Last time I did this, I kept all my various sizes of pants and now I've found that I can step down a size and it works out. Wooo. I love seeing actual benefits.

Project Weight Loss – Week 3

It's that time again for the weekly weight loss update. This week was a pretty big one for me mentally as it was the first week where I dropped down below 270 pounds in my daily weigh ins. Historically, my weight has always sat around 270-275, only dipping above that number (quite a bit above actually) recently. So any time I can get down below that I'm a pretty happy camper. February 1st was my birthday and I ate a bit more than I would normally and didn't exercise, explaining why I jumped back up. Next week will show that I jumped back in the opposite direction quite drastically.

I hate it when that happens on a boundary in the chart because you can't see it as well. But oh well. Since this has also concluded the month of January, I'm going to include the full chart for the month, starting on the 14th since that's when I started keeping track.

Project Lose Weight – Week 2

0

This week, I was honestly surprised at my chart due to a couple factors. First of all, I ate out quite a bit this week due to parents asking me to go out, friends coming over and me not having enough time to make anything before class. I also cut back on my exercise a little more than I would have liked because my wrist has been killing me over the course of the week.

So I'm a little shocked that I was still going generally downward. I think that large downward spike towards the beginning of the week was a fluke and the no-change between friday and saturday was a result of my non-exercisingness.

Project Lose Weight – Week 1

Well, week 1 of really keeping track that is. I found this neat website physicsdiet.com that you can use to keep track of your daily weigh ins and it creates a little graph for you with a rolling average line to help take the daily fluctuations out of the process. So here's my chart for last week:

The blue line is my average weight after the site does it's math-y stuff. The points below the line are my daily totals. It's shaded green if I'm below average and if I have an above average day, it'll show as red. The goal is to keep the line green. I find it helps a lot to be able to see it graphically like this. Kinda like keeping score in a game. I also really like how it can show you a big picture without driving yourself crazy over natural weight fluctuations.

Living Healthier…Again

0

For the past couple weeks I've been trying to get back on the healthier living bandwagon. I was getting tired of how much weight I had put on over the past year and I finally became motivated to do something about it. What was also helpful is that a couple of my friends were motivated to do the same thing at around the same point that I decided to get back on the bandwagon so we've been kinda supporting each other. It helps to have other people around to keep you honest.

Like my friends, I'm not going on some sort of a fad diet or anything. Portion control, eating things that are better for me, daily exercise is where it's at. A couple years ago I lost around 70-75 pounds but I ended up gaining it back because I lapsed into my old eating habits again after moving out from my parents house. The problem was, without somebody else around in the house, I didn't feel as guilty about snacking on foods I had laying around as I did when I knew somebody was there watching me. My portion size for lunch/dinner also increased from what I was doing before.

So now I'm watching how much I eat for dinner, not going for the extra helping of desert or another trip to the potato chips after eating my lunch.I'm also trying to drink more water during the day and cut out the number of times I'd snack on something…basically get back into my better habits from the last time I decided to lose weight. So far, so good as I've lost about 5 pounds since I started. We'll see where it goes from here. Hopefully it'll stick this time. I've done it once before, so I know it's possible for me to do it again.

This also has the up side of me saving money on groceries because I'm not snacking as often, therefore I don't need to buy so much crap.

New Music! Woohooo!

Spock's Beard - Spock's Beard

I got a nice little surprise in the mail yesterday. The new Spock’s Beard CD arrived yesterday, a day before it was supposed to be released. It’s nice getting stuff like that before the release date.

I haven’t been able to listen to it much, so I’ll do a full review later, but from what I’ve heard, it sounds like they’ve continued their transition that started with Feel Euphoria from their Neal Morse era music to the post-Neal age. They’re slowly moving away from a pure progressive style into more of a hard rock with progressive tendencies. Which isn’t a complaint, because they pull it off, surely.

Nicks vocals also seem to be improving. Either he’s getting more comfortable with lead vocals or the songs fit him better, I’m not sure. My first impression is that it comes in behind Octane and in front of Feel Euphoria in my ranking of AN (After Neil) beard efforts.

In other news, I mentioned my campaign for trying to eat a little healthier and do more exercising last week. So far so good. It’s hard to tell at this poinit if it’s just normal fluctionations or a gravitational anomaly or something, but I’m down about 3 pounds or so since the start. Less snacky stuff, more healthy items and making sure I actually do exercise instead of making excuses about it.

A Resolution

About 2 years ago, I made a promise to myself to lose some weight. Which I did. I lost a lot of weight over a period of about 9 or so months. I ate better, exercised every day. I ended up losing about 75 pounds and dropped my waist size about 4 inches. But then, disaster hit, and it was all due to City of Heroes, as much as I hate to say it. I got into City of Heroes hardcore and let my exercise slack off, back to “couch potato” status. Then I moved out of my parents and into my own place and suddenly the healthy eating habits went as well. So, as a result, I’m back to where I started.

I keep trying to do the exercise thing daily, but then I slack off on the other part of the equation too.

No more. This is my public declaration that I’m getting back on the bandwagon to healthier living. Starting…NOW! No more candy. That’s the big thing. My nemesis is the vending machine down in the break room. And to keep myself honest, I’m resolved to posting here if I drop off again. Which seems like a good way of doing it to me, since I like to look successful ;)

Hopefully I won’t be posting about my failure later on this week.
