It's Friday! Yay?
Mar 21st
Well, it's Friday, and that's gotta count for something right?
I've been feeling kinda blah lately (not physically blah. Mentally blah). There's a lot of stuff going on at work and school which is weighing on me a bit right now, so I'm not feeling terribly peppy at the moment. Well, actually with work it's the lack of things going on that's the problem. I've been stuck on this one issue for a while now. One of our customers is having a problem I can't reproduce no matter how hard I try, even if I duplicate their setup exactly. I'm not sure what's wrong, how to fix it or how to even work around it because of the restrictions in place with their particular setup. And they're starting to get a little impatient. I also can't really ask anyone else because I'm the only person who deals with this sort of stuff here.
So I'm stuck. Which is really frustrating for me because I should know the answer and I should be able to fix it, but I can't. This doesn't really help my issue that I discussed earlier about feeling like this isn't what I'm really supposed to be doing. I feel like I'm in over my head or something, I guess would be the best way to describe it.
School is being a pain too because I'm still behind a bit on my project but I'm going to spend more time this weekend to get it going again. I find it really hard to get home from work and jump right into working on another thing I really don't want to do. And my frustration with all of this has caused me to deviate a bit from my weight loss plan, which is totally my fault and I'm jumping back on as of today, but I haven't done any exercise this week at all because I haven't felt that I had the energy.
Oh well…onwards to happier news. Syracuse won their game last night in the NIT Tournament which means they get to play one more home game on Tuesday before they head out to Madison Square Garden (if they win anyway). I'm going to this one alone because my dad has a doctors appointment thingy and I had assumed since the only other people I'd consider asking (Wassy and Jay) don't like sports that they wouldn't be interested. As it turns out I was wrong on that last count after I bought my ticket because Wassy said she would have gone with me. Bah! Noted for the next time this comes up.
This weekend isn't looking terribly fun for me though. I need to spend a lot of time working on my project for school to prevent myself from becoming pushed farther behind. I basically have 4 weeks to finish up the whole deal now and I want to get back on top of things before they totally spiral out of control. I'll be very glad when all of this is over.

The Tournament of Many Corporate Sponsorships
Mar 19th
Last night I went out to the NIT Men's Basketball game at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. I think out of every sport, I enjoy watching college basketball the most. And having Syracuse University basically right next door helps out a lot with that because it means I can actually go to games every so often.
And I probably shouldn't even be admitting this, but I kinda like it better when Syracuse doesn't get to the NCAA Tournament. Because that means they're probably going to be in the NIT and they're also probably going to be playing at least 1 game and possibly 2 at the carrier dome. And the season ticket holders who are usually rich old guys, not the real fans don't get their seats reserved for NIT games, which means even though the crowd is smaller (usually), it's much more lively. I say usually because I was there last year when 26,000 screaming fans attended and shattered the NIT single game attendence record which was probably the most amazing game I've ever attended because of the crowd.
So we went out to the game last night against Robert Morris, we being myself and my parents. It started off pretty rocky…well, actually it ended pretty rocky too. Syracuse played pretty sloppily for most of the game, missing a lot of their shots in the first half and almost all of their free throws in the second. Or what seemed like almost all, because looking at the box score I see they were shooting 53%.
One thing I should also mention is the fact that nobody had any idea
how the rows were labeled in the section we were sitting in. We had a
little trouble to begin with and we ended up pointing a bunch of people
to the right rows by the end of the game. Oh, and the people behind us
were having an awful hard time trying to figure out where the opposing
team was from. I kinda felt sorry for RMU's cheerleaders too, because they were happy and waving and trying to get the crowd to cheer…and didn't seem to realize that they were in Syracuse. Tough crowd.
Anyway, it was a fun time, but I'm not going to be able to make the second game because it's tomorrow and I have class. Bah. Bad scheduling on their part.

Basketball and…Mermaids?
Jan 20th
Yesterday I went out to Syracuse with my parents to watch the Syracuse vs Villanova basketball game at the Carrier Dome. It was kinda ugly and while Syracuse managed to hang in there for a while, they ended up losing it in the second half when they got into some foul trouble and had to play without a couple of their best guys out there. Our seats were a bit weird though. We ended up sitting in the last row of the first level and underneath an underhang where the second level is, so it looked like we were watching the game in a little room with a really big widescreen TV. I guess they were a gift from UPS to my dad because his company is a pretty good UPS customer, so I really can't complain. After the game we went out to Tully's to eat and then we headed back home.
When I got there, my friend Wassy had another surprise to spring on me. I knew she had been cooking up something because she kept IMing me with random "mwahahah!"s and dropping cryptic hints. But she couldn't wait any longer and revealed her plot to me last night. More artwork, whee!
Apparently she thought my fish might enjoy a pin-up girl and I think this will be a fine distraction in their attempts at world domination (they're planning something…). I think this is some of her best detail work yet and you really need to see the full size version to appreciate all the little touches that she put into it.
Out To Syracuse And Back
Jan 13th
Yesterday I went out to Syracuse with Wassy so that she could get her misbehaving iPod fixed. I also went out there with the intention of buying a new bathroom scale (something that was a little more accurate than my current scale) and some scissors. The iPod exchange ended up going pretty smoothly, however I couldn't find the scale I wanted anywhere. We gave up after a few hours of wandering around Carousel and went to Olive Garden for a late lunch/dinner.
After that we decided that we would try to find a independent music store because we were both looking for some hard to find CDs, but the GPS lead us to an empty lot. So we gave up on that and went back to her apartment with a pit stop over at my place so I could pick up the hard drive that used to be in my desktop. The plan was for my friend Jason to stick it in his computer so I could get some information off of it that I had been meaning to do since my desktop blew up last year.
Unfortunately, we both forgot that his power supply doesn't have the right cable to power the drive so we went out locally in search of something that would work. We didn't have any luck on that though…but I did pick up a new keyboard because mine was getting difficult. It was starting to become hard to push the tab and the q keys and it seemed to be spreading across the keyboard. So now I've got the new Apple keyboard. The really thin one. I'm really enjoying it. Good feel, very solid construction with the USB ports on the side so I don't have to make a dive for the hub to plug in my headset and such.
After that, we returned to their place and watched Sicko, the documentary by Michael Moore about health care in america. I must say that was fairly depressing. I just hope that with all of the public spotlight that's on the medical care system going into this election, americans will be able to figure this thing out. It's staggering what other countries have as far as universal health care that we haven't figured out yet.

The Springs Are Against Me
Dec 2nd
In the latest installment of what seems to be the ongoing rebellion of all of my computers and electronic equipment, the power adapter for my Macbook Pro has decided to die. Just when I needed the computer over the weekend to work with my partner on our Software Engineering project. So not only was it annoying, it was terribly inconvenient too.
As it turns out, apple charges $80 for a replacement power adapter, so there goes my play money for this week, which is too bad because Dream Theater just put out a reasonably priced hoody that I would have liked to own. Oh well.
What happened was that a couple of the springs in the plug were lose so the prongs weren't making good contact with the computer. Therefore, it wasn't charging. Sigh. Stupid little springs.
I had to drive out to Syracuse to buy a replacement since that's the closest store that had one to me (about an hour of driving each way). They've convienently blocked off about half of the parking during peak shopping season for construction so finding a spot was horrible. And inside the mall was worse. Ugh. I'm never going shopping there again in December. It's just too crazy for me.
I was able to make it back in one piece though. And my partner and I did some good work in getting the framework of our project together. I'm going to be putting some more work in tomorrow and we'll see how much we can get done.
I Feel The Cosmos
Jan 27th
Ok, while it’s not Katamari Damacy, I did just finish Suikoden V the second time, this time collecting all of the stars of destiny (Stars…Cosmos…get it? Ok, I admit it’s bad…) The final boss was A LOT easier this time, and the ending much more satisfying than the less than perfect one.
My Dad was over earlier this evening for our weekly Madden ’07 Franchise night on the Wii. I had…an embarrasing loss in the second game. Something like 35 to 0. It was horrible.
This weekend is going to be extremely busy for me. Saturday is going to be taken up largely (I think) by going out to Syracuse with some friends of mine. Sunday afternoon, I’m going to play tech support for somebody I work with over at her house. She’s having wireless network issues. And in between all of that, I need to do some reading for my Western Civilization class.
