Curse You Stairs!!!
Dec 13th 2007
For a while now, I knew my porch steps have had it out for me. They tasted blood last year when I slipped and fell down, causing my tail bone to hurt for several weeks after. This year I knew they'd be wanting more.
The saga began this weekend when I had noticed some icy buildup occurring. I grabbed my rock salt supply and got to work, trying to head them off at the pass. Instead, this just seemed to anger the stairs and more ice formed. Hacking away with a shovel was ineffective and the only thing to be done was to just be careful going up and down (mostly down, up wasn't so bad).
Fast forward to yesterday morning. It had gotten warmer out so all of the ice and snow on the stairs had melted into something of a slush. I knew that if I didn't clear them off right then it would be game over for me when I got home from work since they would just re-freeze into an even slicker, more smooth ice sheet. I grabbed my shovel and got to work, clearing them off. I thought I had won.
I was wrong.
I came home from work last night to discover that they had totally iced over again. Luckily I had some more rock salt in my car, but I made the unfortunate choice to navigate the steps to put my stuff into my apartment first and then take care of the ice later. I began walking down the steps, taunting them that I was going to get some more rock salt to end this madness once and for all.
It was then that they decided to strike. The second step from the top had had it with me. Boom! I found myself laying flat on my back, somehow at the bottom of the stairs. Immediately I noticed that I hadn't fallen straight on my butt like I did the last time, but I turned a little bit. So at least now it's not going to hurt to sit down for 5 weeks, but…it's still not going to be fun.
I got the last laugh though. You see, the stairs had ejected me towards where my secret weapon (the rock salt) was stored. I could hear their screams of defeat as I showered them with salty crystals, taking much more satisfaction than I probably should have out of it. A couple whacks with my shovel when I returned home from turning in my paper at school and hanging out with my friends and the stairs had been defeated.
For now.

Blah. That About Sums It Up
Jan 24th 2007
The last real update I threw up here was on Monday, so I feel compelled to post again.
I had class Monday night. It’s a Western Civilization course which consists of reading a lot of the stuff written by the great thinkers of the western world and trying to figure out what lead them to their ideas and such. The teacher sounds awesome. The 3 hours I was there just flew by. I found a good teacher…amazing isn’t it? It sounds like it’s going to be a lot of work, but it’s going to be a lot of interesting work.
Tuesday was…not a good day. If you recall, I fell down the stairs Monday morning and my tailbone was bugging me all day. Well, it got worse on Tuesday. I even passed on going home for lunch because I didn’t want to get in and out of my car more than I had to. Other than that, an overall unremarkable day.
Today, I work up feeling better. Not nearly as sore as before. A very, very busy day at work that I thought would never end. I IMed a friend around 3pm: “Please tell me it’s not really 3pm and that my clock is slow” “Actually, I’ve got 2:58 here” “…You’re not helping”. It finally did end and here I am, relaxing at home, not wanting to look at another piece of code until at least tomorrow.
I’ve got a growing laundry list of things I need to do. Call the bank, call cingular to change my cell phone’s rate plan from a regional plan to a national plan, call the hotel I made reservations at for the Washington DC trip to make sure they’ve got the reservations, call my high school to get my transcript sent to my college so I can skip out of the foreign language requirement…
Sigh…I wish this stuff would just do itself.
The Weekend In A Nutshell
Jan 22nd 2007
I was meaning to make a post earlier, but it kept slipping my mind, so I’ve got two days of catchup to play here.
I had some friends over to my place on Saturday where we tried out the new Warioware game for the Wii. It was incredibly fun in a group setting, although very Japanese and very disturbing. Some of the games are…odd… It’s short as well. I think we covered everything we could do in the single player game in the couple hours we played it. It’s still a great party game. I’ll probably pick it up before my next party type thing.
One casualty of Saturday was my wireless PS2 controller (Logitech’s). The X button started sticking which, as one would imagine, could be extremely annoying when trying to play games. But more on that later.
Sunday was taken up mostly by me playing Suikoden V through again. I finished it the first time, but I’m going back through to complete everything and recruit the 108 Stars because I missed a bunch last time through. I’m using the Brady Games guide which is really well done. I’m nearing the end (finally). Almost there…then I can start working on the pile of games that I’ve got on my to-play list.
Going back to the Logitech controller thing, I tried taking it apart yesterday morning to see if I could fix the button, but no dice. Two of those screws are in there tight and I can’t seem to find a way to get them out. Well…they unscrew a bit, but they don’t come completely out no matter what I do. So I hopped over to Best Buy and picked up a 6 foot extension cable for the Dual Shock controller because where I usually sit is just out of the range of the standard cable. I think I’m going to keep going with this system. Wireless is nice, but the Logitech controller (the best wireless one out there) doesn’t really match the quality of the dual shock controller.
And then this morning I slipped on the stairs when I was taking the garbage out and slid down about 4 steps. Sitting down is very painful at the moment and I think I may have gotten a very small stone embedded into my right pinky finger. Today is not starting off well.
