Lots Of Foot Related Stuff
Sep 9th 2009
I’ve noticed I’ve started to get a bit lax about updating around here…again. Dah. Hopefully I can pick it up a little bit. Haven’t been in much of a mood for writing recently.
I went back to the doctor for my followup appointment for my foot. It consisted of me waiting for an hour while they tried to get my X-rays from the other office faxed over so they could look at them where I was. Now, in this day and age of computers and networks, it strikes me as strange that two doctors offices in the same medical group can’t just walk over to a computer and pull up a digital copy of the x-rays for view. I mean, I know when I looked at them a couple weeks ago it was on a computer. So they are in some sort of digital form. Why do they need to FAX them over?? Anyway, I ended up going back to work and then returned back to the office once they got the x-rays.
They ended up doing another set of x-rays just to see if it was healing. I should know more today about that. My doctor said that as long as it felt like it was still healing, I don’t need to go to the podiatrist. But if it’s still bugging me in a couple weeks that’s something that I’ll probably end up doing. It’s healing decently well, but it’s still bugging me. Especially my big toe.
But today I wore my real shoes to work for the first time in 2-3 weeks. Which made me realize that I really need a new pair of shoes. Which then made me realize I would have to go shoe shopping. I’m a size 13 wide which is not very common. You can find them here and there in a store, but it’s a crapshoot if it’s going to be a shoe I want since I’m pretty picky about shoes for work. A lot of the styles look stupid to me and/or aren’t comfortable.
I failed on my work shoe quest but I did pick up a pair of sneakers. My current ones were starting to dig into the back of my heel I noticed. It was about time for a new pair. Still looking for work shoes though. I wish my sneakers and work shoes weren’t on the same replacement cycle…
Project Weight Loss: Week 13 and 14 + Walking
Apr 21st 2008
It seems I forgot to do a post for last week, so I'm going to be doing a combined post. It's been a bit of a rocky road over the past few weeks due to stress and/or lack of time to exercise. I managed to get off my long standing plateau of just above 250 and now I've traded that in for one just below 250. But I haven't really been exercising as much as I would like to be as of late. Hopefully that will change once school is over and I have some more free time to play with. At least I'm maintaining which is a good thing in my book.
The warmer weather recently has highlighted that I need to go shopping for a couple pairs of shorts. I seem to only have size 42 and size 38, one of which is way too big for me and the other is a little tight right now. I must have either tossed the 40s or my swing in weight totally skipped a size in between a summer.
And because of the warmer weather, I've been walking outside for the past couple of weeks when I have the time to go out and walk. Partially to help build up some endurance for the trip out to Washington DC coming up in a little more than month and partially to get some more different and/or outdoor type activities going to keep things interesting.
This friday though I kinda walked a little longer than I had meant to. There's a couple of different routes I can take around where I live. I usually just do an out and back kinda thing that works out to be about 3 miles total. Friday though I decided to try walking around the loop, as there's a couple of streets that form kinda a ring. I'm in a pretty rural area, so this isn't a small loop. Roughly five to five and a half miles to be exact. So an hour and twenty minutes later, I had almost finished. I stopped into my parents house for some water because I didn't have any cold water at my place and they're just down the road from me and practically collapsed on the living room floor. That's not something I really care to do again in the near future. Maybe once I build up my endurance a bit…
New shoes would be helpful too. My current shoes are a little on the old side and really aren't terribly supportive anymore. So I just purchased a new pair of New Balance MW792's to fix that problem. They should be here Wednesday. Since my size is 13 and I need a wide, it's a little hard to find decent walking shoes in a store, so I usually have to internet order stuff. Darn genetics.
Hah! I Feel Safer Already

So I was at the mall today, picking up some odds and ends (Cereal, Shampoo and a new belt if you must know) and I saw the sign pictured to the right in the food court. I felt like doing a little dance right there, which I didn’t because I didn’t really want to attract attention to myself.
I HATE those stupid Heelys. If you’re not familiar with the craze, they’re a cross between shoes and roller skates. Kids rolling around, not paying any attention to where they’re going… I’ve almost been run over a couple times by kids wearing those things.
Now, don’t get me wrong…if I was in that age demographic, I’d probably be overjoyed if I owned a pair. But now that I’m (just barely) old enough to start talking about how things were back when I was in middle school with phrases such as “Kids these days…” and “I was never that much of a brat, was I?”, those shoes are incredibly annoying.
