QotD: Take Me Back

If you were told you could relive a moment in your life, which would you choose?

At this point, it would probably be my High School graduation day in 2001. As much as I was bummed about parting from some of my friends and the people I knew (although, as it turns out, I’d see most of them at the community college I did my first two years of college at), graduation brought me a great feeling of accomplishment. Not just in the academic sense, although that was part of it as well, but also a feeling of accomplishment in developing as an individual.

Prior to high school, I was that kid that everybody made fun of. I had some rough times, ended up in the principal’s office more than I’d like to admit, as well as suspended from school for 5 days after a situation got out of hand (That might be a story for another day.) But going through my 4 years in high school, I really developed as an individual. I learned not to let stuff bother me as much, I learned that some of the kids in the more popular circles actually wanted to hang out with me (although I was never really “in” with them as much as some of their other friends). I got interested in sports for the first time. I did volunteer work with the Special Olympics in the area which was an extremely rewarding experience. I could really go on like this all day

I basically developed into the person I am today, all of which came into focus in the days leading up to graduation. At the time it felt like I was leaving one phase in live and moving on to something better. Which was sorta true, in a way, and sorta not true at the same time. Moving on, yes, but it’s scary out here in the adult world.

I Feel The Cosmos

Ok, while it’s not Katamari Damacy, I did just finish Suikoden V the second time, this time collecting all of the stars of destiny (Stars…Cosmos…get it? Ok, I admit it’s bad…) The final boss was A LOT easier this time, and the ending much more satisfying than the less than perfect one.

My Dad was over earlier this evening for our weekly Madden ’07 Franchise night on the Wii. I had…an embarrasing loss in the second game. Something like 35 to 0. It was horrible.

This weekend is going to be extremely busy for me. Saturday is going to be taken up largely (I think) by going out to Syracuse with some friends of mine. Sunday afternoon, I’m going to play tech support for somebody I work with over at her house. She’s having wireless network issues. And in between all of that, I need to do some reading for my Western Civilization class.

Graphic Design In The Freezing Cold

I had my desktop publishing class last night. It was my first time in the school’s Mac Lab, which consists of about 20 or so G5 iMacs. The smaller LCD size.

I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth it for me to aquire a copy of QuarkXpress  (the progam we’re using in the class) for my own MacBook Pro, so I don’t have to drive all the way out there to use the lab computers for assignments.

The class itself seems interesting. We’re going to be doing some work with local non profit organizations for our final project, doing some advertising work for them by making a brochure, a poster and a newspaper ad by the end of the semester. I need to find a non-profit to contact now I guess. It seems to be less work than my constitutional law class at any rate.

Unfortunetly, as mentioned in the subject, I’m missing Grey’s Anatomy to go to this class. So bah! I guess I have to catch the re-runs on Friday for now.

As an aside, it’s freaking COLD out. My hair was still a little wet from my shower this morning when I went out to start my car and by the time I got back in I had a sheet of ice on my head.

Blah. That About Sums It Up

The last real update I threw up here was on Monday, so I feel compelled to post again.

I had class Monday night. It’s a Western Civilization course which consists of reading a lot of the stuff written by the great thinkers of the western world and trying to figure out what lead them to their ideas and such. The teacher sounds awesome. The 3 hours I was there just flew by. I found a good teacher…amazing isn’t it? It sounds like it’s going to be a lot of work, but it’s going to be a lot of interesting work.

Tuesday was…not a good day. If you recall, I fell down the stairs Monday morning and my tailbone was bugging me all day. Well, it got worse on Tuesday. I even passed on going home for lunch because I didn’t want to get in and out of my car more than I had to. Other than that, an overall unremarkable day.

Today, I work up feeling better. Not nearly as sore as before. A very, very busy day at work that I thought would never end. I IMed a friend around 3pm: “Please tell me it’s not really 3pm and that my clock is slow” “Actually, I’ve got 2:58 here” “…You’re not helping”. It finally did end and here I am, relaxing at home, not wanting to look at another piece of code until at least tomorrow.

I’ve got a growing laundry list of things I need to do. Call the bank, call cingular to change my cell phone’s rate plan from a regional plan to a national plan, call the hotel I made reservations at for the Washington DC trip to make sure they’ve got the reservations, call my high school to get my transcript sent to my college so I can skip out of the foreign language requirement…

Sigh…I wish this stuff would just do itself.

No Plan Survives Contact With The Enemy

If you’ve stumbled upon my previous post about getting everything straightened out with my schoolwork and having a plan for continuing, it’s time for a little update.

I had my Constitutional Law class last night and…I’m opting to drop it. The professor is an assistant district attorney for the state and he’s teaching the course like law school basically. It’s going to be way too time intensive for me to work full time as well as take that course.

So I’m now going to be taking a desktop publishing type course Thursday nights. Probably a bit more manageable as far as time goes.

Now I’m just waiting for the billing department there to mess up because I dropped a course and added a new one. I figure they’ll be sending me a refund and then sending me to collections because I didn’t pay for the course I added. This is based on my experience from last semester about them losing the payment.

Textbook Shortage?

0

I bought my books for school today (admittedly a little late, considering I’ve got my first class tomorrow). I found the 4 books for my Western Civ class all right. One textbook and 3 novels. My Constitutional Law class, however…

The bookstore didn’t have it, so I took down the ISBN number and checked online. It’s out of stock at both amazon and barnes and noble, so I had to go with ordering it used through one of amazons 3rd party marketplace sellers. Hopefully it gets here asap. And hopefully I don’t need it for tomorrow night’s class.

I Have…A Plan!

Thursday I managed to get a hold of the department head at my college so we could discuss what I need to get done in order to graduate (finally).

After a lengthy conversation, I ended up needing the Software Engineering class which had sparked this whole thing to begin with (since I needed to take it at night, but it’s never offered at night), the final big project thingy, some sort of Western Civilization course and 2 open elective courses that are whatever I feel like taking.

The confusion with my calculus has been resolved I hope. He said that even though I took calc at my first school, when I transfered into my current one, they took my pre-calc course as the highest level of math I completed, even though calc 1 was on my transcript. He said he’d fix that.

So I’m taking 2 classes this semester. Themes in Western Civilization since the Renaissance (Western Civ requirement) and Constitutional Law (Open Elective #1). I’m interested in the constitutonal law stuff so I figured that’s a decent pick. Seperation of powers, supreme court decisions and their effect on the branches of government, etc.

I’m probably going to be taking one course over the summer (open elective #2) and then finish out with the software engineering class and the project in the winter and graduate by december.

That’s the plan…hopefully things don’t go off. I really want to get done with school and put all of this junk behind me.

Scheduling Is Hard!

0

I got a reply back from the department head at my school who I’ve been trying to talk to about scheduling problems for the past week or so.

Anyway, I need to meet up with him after the 1st of the Year when campus re-opens so that we can work something out. It finally seems like I’m moving forward with trying to finish off school. Which is something I desperately need to do. Must that stupid piece of paper that tells other people that I know how to do what I’m already doing.

Bah.

The only thing that going to college did for me was allow me to meet up with my current circle of friends. That education stuff stopped after the first 1.5 years. Now I’m just paying money so they can run me around for a couple more years, teach me nothing new and then give me a shiny piece of paper.

Should Have Picked Overnight Shipping

0

My Wii is currently in Buffalo…just sitting there. I’m regretting not picking overnight shipping now, but I guess this is an exercise in patience at this point. It was an extra $30 for overnight shipping anyway…meh. I can wait a day. The wii shrine has been updated a bit. I now have a Nunchuck that I picked up yesterday from Circuit City. They had a ton of them there and you need to grab those things when you can. So when I get mine, I’ll have a total of 3 wiimotes and 3 nunchucks.

Time seems to be running about four times slower than usual right now. I hate anticipation induced temporal disturbances.

Speaking of temporal disturbances, I think I may have to send another e-mail to the head of the department at my school about my scheduling difficulties for next semester. He said last week that he’d send me a more detailed reply tomorrow and it’s been several tomorrows without anything. So I’m wondering if he forgot about me.

FREEEEE!!! (For Now)

0

I took my American History 101 final last night, which means the class is done and I’m officially free! Woohoo! I think I did pretty well on it too, which was good considering I actually spent time studying for it. I usually don’t study much for tests, but generally I’m the kind of person that can look over their notes for 15 minutes before the test and call that studying.

I’ve also finally established contact with somebody at school to try and fix up my schedule problems for next semester. Those problems mainly being they’re not offering anything I need and haven’t offered this one specific class at night or on the weekends in, well…ever. The class is Software Engineering which is incredibly annoying to me because IT’S WHAT I DO AT MY JOB EVERY DAY. I also need to take a western civilization course which, surprise surprise…they’re not offering either.

And for some reason my Calc 1 course didn’t transfer over and I really don’t want to have to take that again. I need to talk with the registrar’s office I think and get that settled.

One thing at a time…
