Merry Christmas Eve!
Dec 24th
Ahhh…finally. It’s Christmas Eve and my vacation has begun. I won’t be back to work (unless something explodes) until January 4th, so needless to say yesterday time was standing still. But it’s finally arrived. Vacation. Wooo!
The next several days are going to be consumed with family type stuff. I’m going over to my parents today for out main Christmas celebration as well as the (semi) gathering for my mom’s side of the family, then back there tomorrow more for hanging out purposes. Then I’m headed off to my aunts house for the gathering for my dad’s side of the family on Saturday.
Today’s going to feel looooong as well, because Wassy should be finishing up the Christmas-themed Frost piece at some point which I will be unable to see until this evening when I return home from my parents house. She did the inks last night and it’s turning out amazing, so I can’t wait to see colors.
But al that must wait until later, I’m off to get ready to visit my parents. To all 4 of you who read this, I hope you have a happy holiday.
Random Happenings
Sep 18th
I’ve got a few things to report about since my last update.
First of all, I think I’ve finally settled on a basic color scheme/design for my mom’s quilting/craft website. I’m still tweaking it at the moment and I’m trying to decide if it looks too…web 2.0-y for the craft content. But I finally found something I liked well enough to take it out of the initial planning stages. Going to see if I can get some more work in on it during my lunch here.
It’s a good thing that’s getting finalized too since one of the first projects in the Digital Typography course that I’m taking is to do a business card/letterhead/envelope for something, so I figure I can work her up some stationary while I’m at it. The course is coming along quite well. We’ve finally started working on the computer and with InDesign which I’m finding pretty cool. I’m learning some stuff and generally enjoying myself which is a pretty good sign. I’m not regretting the decision to go back to school.
On a totally different note, I got a little bored yesterday and continued my blog transfer. I’ve got everything that I’ve posted on Vox from when I signed up through November 2006. Once I get out of 2006 the months will speed up as I settled into more relaxed posting style.
Lastly, on a product review front: The new Muse album has REALLY grown on me since I posted my initial review. The weaker songs clicked and it’s become one of my favorite albums of the year. Which only serves to diminish the Porcupine Tree album more…Oh well. I’ve also been enjoying Scribblenauts. But I’ll save that for a separate post when I get a minute to do a proper review.

Who taught you how to cook?
Submitted by Donna.
Mostly, my limited cooking skills were given to me by my mother.
That’s not to say she’s not a good cook or anything (she is). It’s just that I’m the one without talent. As mentioned before, if it doesn’t have directions on the back of the package, I’m pretty much lost. And sometimes, even if it does have directions, I’m still lost.
I Feel The Cosmos
Jan 27th
Ok, while it’s not Katamari Damacy, I did just finish Suikoden V the second time, this time collecting all of the stars of destiny (Stars…Cosmos…get it? Ok, I admit it’s bad…) The final boss was A LOT easier this time, and the ending much more satisfying than the less than perfect one.
My Dad was over earlier this evening for our weekly Madden ’07 Franchise night on the Wii. I had…an embarrasing loss in the second game. Something like 35 to 0. It was horrible.
This weekend is going to be extremely busy for me. Saturday is going to be taken up largely (I think) by going out to Syracuse with some friends of mine. Sunday afternoon, I’m going to play tech support for somebody I work with over at her house. She’s having wireless network issues. And in between all of that, I need to do some reading for my Western Civilization class.
Thanksgiving And More
Nov 25th
I’ve been a bit busy/too lazy recently to update here, so I’m going to catch up on a couple days worth of activities here.
Thanksgiving was fun. I woke up that morning with dreams of getting myself a $100 XBox 360 from amazon.com due to a promotion they were running. Unfortunately, that wasn’t to be. The load crashed amazons servers for about 15-20 minutes and by the time I got in, it was sold out since they were only offering 1000 of them. Oh well, it was worth a try. Both my helpers came up empty too. (I had my dad and a friend of mine madly refreshing as well).
So I went over to my parents house in the morning to do the traditional Christmas decoration setup. We get the argument portion of the holiday over and done with there by arguing about the most efficient method of setting up the tree (as mentioned before, it’s a nice artificial one. Looks pretty real until you get close to it). During which, we watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and then I somehow convinced my dad to watch a little of the national dog show. Not that I really wanted to watch it myself. I just wanted to see if I could get him to do it.
Dinner was good. It’s been a long time since I’ve had turkey that wasn’t in a sandwich. My mom didn’t enjoy the cooking quite so much as we enjoyed the eating though. I have a feeling we’re going to be going out to eat again next year.
So Black Friday rolls around and I get the stupid idea to go out later in the afternoon to pick up some items, as well as check around and see if there happened to be a Nintendo Wii out there that had been overlooked in the mad rush. Of course there wasn’t. And it was still a mad rush out there. According to my sister who works at the Staples across the street from Best Buy, people were lining up there starting at 6PM thanksgiving day and by the time she got into work in the morning, the line had already gone way past several of the other stores in that same section of buildings. That’s just…nuts.
So this afternoon I’m going to a little gathering with some friends where we’re going to test out the party abilities of the Nintendo Wii. Been looking forward to this for a while. I guess we’re going to have 4 controllers and a bunch of game type things. My arm is going to be sooo sore tomorrow.

What are you thankful for?
I’m thankful that I have a family that wants to help me out, friends to fall back on when things don’t go as planned and a steady job with which I can support myself, which is more than a lot of people out there have. As much as I complain about my job or school or whatever, It helps to stop and realize that not everybody is quite as fortunate.
I am, however, not thankful for my alarm clock, which woke me up at 6:30 on my day off. It should have realized and turned off the alarm. What?? Quit looking at me like that!
Time Stopped
Nov 22nd
Time slows down when you’re waiting for a 4 day vacation to kick off. 3.116 hours to go.
I’m going over to my parents tonight to have a pre-Thanksgiving dinner (homemade pizza, mmm), and to discuss what we’re actually doing for Thanksgiving tomorrow. We obviously love to plan things in advance around here. I think it’s just going to be figuring out when I’m supposed to be coming over, but I can’t turn down pizza, so over I go.
3.066 hours to go now.
Ouch!
Nov 17th
As you can see, I made it through the storm yesterday. It got really rainy later that night as well, but I didn’t feel like checking to see if it was anything I should be worried about.
Ugh…I’m not sure if I can do this. The questions of the day for most of the week have been…lacking somewhat, so I have to go freeform. I’m not sure I can come up with semi-interesting things to say all the time!
Um…ok…er…What should I talk about???
Oh! My mom recently got a glucose testing kit because she’s having some problems with low blood sugar, and she keep wanting me to jab her with the needle for some reason. I’m trying to decide if I should be freaked out or not.
Roaming Backups
Nov 16th
I’m currently carless. Well, I’ll have it back today, so this particular state won’t last that long, unless something horrible happens.
After I dropped my car off, I went out to dinner with my parents. When my dad handed me his coat so I could put it on the seat next to me, I realized that he had a computer backup tape in his pocket. I asked about it and that happened to be his offsite backup tape which he apparently carries around with him. So it’s more of a “roaming backup”. It seems to me that’s not the best plan for keeping your data secure in the event of a natural disaster. Espically since it’s in his office most of the time. I told him he should probably rethink the plan. He said he panicked this morning because it was warm out today and the tape was in his winter coat.
In other news, I bought grapes yesterday. Mmm…grapes. I haven’t had grapes in a looong time. I’m on a quest for healthier foods to snack on. Grapes seemed a logical choice. And they were on sale.
The Result of Sleeping In
Nov 15th
On Saturday I was supposed to wake up in the morning and take my car in to get an oil change, and a state inspection since it’s due this month. Plus put on some snow tires. Note the key phrase in there “supposed to”. I forgot to set my alarm and slept right on through the appointment, so that means tonight I have to meet my dad out there and leave my car so they can do everything tomorrow. Then pick it up later.
So I’m out a car tonight and tomorrow morning. I believe the plan is my mom is going to drive me to work. Anyway, on the bright side, at least I get to go out to dinner with my parents tonight after we drop the car off. Yay! (Any time I don’t have to eat my cooking…it’s a good thing)
