Bad News Day
Aug 18th 2009
Bunch of ungood stuff happened last night.
First of all, my Betta, Fish has been looking a little lethargic lately. He’s been hanging out at the bottom of the tank and not moving at all except for eating.
I shined a flashlight on him and I think I see the beginnings of an infection of Velvet. I changed his water last night and I’m planning to see how he reacts to that before I decide to do anything to him more drastic than that.
Which leads me to bad thing number 2. I was finishing up changing his water when I missed the last step on the stairs in our apartment and ended up falling. My right foot was pointed down towards the ground and I landed on it with pretty much my entire body weight, bending my toes backwards in directions which toes should never bend.
It hurts a lot and I can’t really put much weight on it. I can still move my toes so I don’t believe anything is broken, but I’m going to try to get in to see my doctor about it today in case I did something serious to it.
The Day After Is Always Fun…
Sep 18th 2007
As I thought yesterday, every muscle in my body is not very happy with me today. Getting out of bed this morning was really, really hard. My normally uncomfortable office chair was especially unbearable today. Oh well. I had planned on cleaning up around here a bit this evening, but I decided that probably wouldn't be such a good idea right away. Maybe tomorrow.
Instead I just sat around and relaxed. Watched my fish a bit. I think I've finally figured out the correct quantity of food to feed so that I'm not under feeding or over feeding them. My water has stopped being a little cloudy between water changes and the fish are swimming around happily, so that's a good thing. I was thinking about getting a slightly larger centerpiece fish to replace the two zebra danio's that I lost, but I'm not sure what I want to get. Something that hangs out near the top would be nice because it seems most of my fish prefer the bottom half of my tank. I made a slight planning error when it comes to fish types it seems.
And now, from the sad news department…one of the members of the mikeportnoy.com forums passed away today. KeithK, who fell victim to a sudden illness, was a well respected guy, never afraid to speak his mind or tell it like it was. Probably the most genuine person I've ever had contact with on the internet. I didn't know him personally beyond what I read of his posts, but he touched a lot of people and the forums are never, ever going to be the same again. He was a friend to many and was always willing to lend a hand or an ear when somebody needed to talk. Sigh.

Blah. That About Sums It Up
Jan 24th 2007
The last real update I threw up here was on Monday, so I feel compelled to post again.
I had class Monday night. It’s a Western Civilization course which consists of reading a lot of the stuff written by the great thinkers of the western world and trying to figure out what lead them to their ideas and such. The teacher sounds awesome. The 3 hours I was there just flew by. I found a good teacher…amazing isn’t it? It sounds like it’s going to be a lot of work, but it’s going to be a lot of interesting work.
Tuesday was…not a good day. If you recall, I fell down the stairs Monday morning and my tailbone was bugging me all day. Well, it got worse on Tuesday. I even passed on going home for lunch because I didn’t want to get in and out of my car more than I had to. Other than that, an overall unremarkable day.
Today, I work up feeling better. Not nearly as sore as before. A very, very busy day at work that I thought would never end. I IMed a friend around 3pm: “Please tell me it’s not really 3pm and that my clock is slow” “Actually, I’ve got 2:58 here” “…You’re not helping”. It finally did end and here I am, relaxing at home, not wanting to look at another piece of code until at least tomorrow.
I’ve got a growing laundry list of things I need to do. Call the bank, call cingular to change my cell phone’s rate plan from a regional plan to a national plan, call the hotel I made reservations at for the Washington DC trip to make sure they’ve got the reservations, call my high school to get my transcript sent to my college so I can skip out of the foreign language requirement…
Sigh…I wish this stuff would just do itself.
Dentists Are Pure Evil!
Oct 18th 2006
I went for my 6 month cleaning yesterday and I swear these people learn how to inflict as much pain as possible on your mouth as a required class in dental school. Well, actually the person I got yesterday wasn’t too bad…
Anyway, I need to go back in November because I’ve got a cavity that needs looking at. I think. They were a bit hazy when explaining it to me because there was a billing crisis where someone hadn’t paid their bill and owed like $1000+ or something. Anyway…I need to go back. Blast!
