What websites do you visit every day?
Submitted by Chez Michelle.
Wow, this one might take a while…
Usually the first destination of the day is my City of Heroes group's forums, X-Syndicate. Then after that I usually pop over to the City of Heroes official forums to see what's going on. Next it's woot.com to see if they have any cheap stuff that I might be interested in buying. Usually not though, but I keep checking…
After that it's off to Google Reader to check out all of the news feeds from all of the sites I'm interested in. At that point I usually branch off and visit anything that seems interesting.
Lately I've been browsing fish related forums as well, the Tropical Fish Forums being my favorite site that I've found. I usually stop by Newsvine which is the best place on the net that I've found for news. I usually end up over at PvP Online at some point during the day which is a webcomic that I like reading. Oh, and I usually pay a visit to the Mike Portnoy Forums. Mike's the drummer for Dream Theater (my favorite band if you haven't been keeping score) and I use that to keep up to date on what's going on with my favorite bands and such. New album next month!
QotD: I’m Good

What are five things you’re good at?
Submitted by HapaLove.
This is going to be a stretch I think. I’ll tell you what I’m not good at: Making lists of things that I’m good at. I can think of so many more things that I’m not good at.
- Computers – I’m good at computers, knowing how they work, fixing problems that come up. Anything I can’t solve on my own is usually solvable with a quick Google search.
- Programming – This could probably fall into the category of computers, but I’m stretching things out here. I’m not the best programmer out there and I’ll be the first to admit I’ve got a lot to learn, but, I think I’m pretty decent anyway. Especially when it comes to web based programming. I’m not great at the local desktop programming stuff, but I think I’m better with the web. I enjoy it a lot more too.
- Guitar Hero – Free bird on expert baby!
- Researching Stuff – If I decide I’m going to go and do something, I’m good at researching it. I tend to over-research a bit actually. If I want to buy something, I want to know pretty much everything there is to know about that particular thing. I’m also good at looking up useless facts..such as how much it would cost to put a plastic tarp over the Great Lakes.
- Listening - From what I’ve been told, I’m a good listener. That’s a little hard to measure for myself, obviously, so I’ll just have to take other people’s words on that one.
QotD: Google Me

Have you ever Googled your own name? How did you feel about the results?
Submitted by elen.
Let’s see here, apparently there’s another me which is also a programmer working on the Linux Kernel. It also looks like this particular version of me either works at or attends Penn State University.
There’s also a guy who does bike races. He came in 14th in some hill climb thing.
Somebody also took the domain name of my name to put up a crappy wedding picture album.
Ooh, finally, the first link that actually points to me is on the bottom of page 2, linked to my now inactive profile at epinions.com.
Not really sure how I’m supposed to feel about that. Knowing there’s another guy out there with the same name who’s also into development is kinda freaky through.
What, It’s Not Thursday?
Oct 18th 2006
I sure started today off on the right foot. I went though my entire morning routine thinking it was Thursday. Until I looked at the clock on my MacBook and it send Wednesday. Arrrgh. Add one more day to my countdown until the weekend then. Wednesday is evil. Like dentists.
Just so this post isn’t me complaining, I heard about an awesome plugin for Firefox yesterday on Inside The Net. It takes a google search, splits the page in half and runs a wikipedia search for the same terms on the other half of the page. It’s called Googlepedia and it works in Firefox 1.5 and the release candidates of 2.

What is your browser’s default home page set to?
Submitted by Kelev T. Cat.
In the recent past, it’s been set up to Newsvine, which is a social news type service which pulls most of it’s content straight from the AP and allows users to submit their own stories (which can get featured right along side the AP content). It’s a pretty cool site, nice design and great user created content.
It’s kinda funny this question came up when it did since yesterday I had started discovering a couple adaptive type sites which learn what you’re interests are and show stories based on that. I’ve been trying out Spotback and Findory, but I’m not really sure if I’m going to keep using them or not since there seems to be a lot of duplicate stories and old things being shown to me. There’s also always Google’s homepage thing
I dunno which one I’ll end up with.
