I Have A Wii…mote
0Yesterday afternoon I went out to Syracuse with some friends, as previously mentioned. They’ve been having some rough times this week, so I figured the least I could do was help get them out of the house for a day and go have some dinner somewhere. So we went out and wandered around the mall for a while, which was FUN! It was extremely busy, as one would imagine in December.
I was on the lookout for Wiimotes and Nunchucks if I could find them, considering they’re very rare at the moment and I’ve been convinced to try and camp out for one on the 17th. I have a very persuasive friend. She’s a bad influence, considering she’s most of the reason why I’m into console gaming in the first place. I finally found one at EB Games, just the wiimotes, not the nunchuck, but I grabbed it anyway. I’m just trying to have one extra now…I’m not sure if I want to go for all 4 controllers because I dunno how often I’d use it.
Anyway, we went out to dinner at Olive Garden which was great as usual. It’s nice when I get the chance to go out there. For the record, Peach Sangria = Good.
The Weekend Rundown
0So I haven’t posted much at all this weekend because I was too darn busy to write something down. So here’s a post covering the three days of my weekend.
Friday
I had the day off because I took every Friday off until the end of the year, plus December 26th to use up some vacation time I had before it vanishes at the end of the year. So I basically stayed home and played Suikoden V and hoped that somebody on the internet would get some Wii’s in stock because I’m actively trying to find one at this point. Towards the end of the day, target and amazon actually got their bundle in stock, but I held off because I’m not sure if I wanted the contents of the bundle and I was planning on trying to score a Wii Sunday morning at Target anyway.
Saturday
Today I had plans. Lots of plans. However, the first thing I want to mention is an emergency cheese run.
I had a bit of a crisis, since I wanted to make a sandwich and had no cheese. You can’t really have a good sandwich without cheese! So I went to the store to get some. I went to check out in the express, 15 items or less lane and there’s two people in front of me. The person actually paying was an older woman who pulled out a wad of coupons and double coupon things from the paper. In fact…she might have clipped every coupon in the entire newspaper ad. So we spend roughly 10 minutes sorting through all of her coupons so she could save 50 cents on orange juice. I swear, if she pulled out a checkbook…
The next person in front of me was a little kid buying a stuffed animal of some sort. The cashier asks for his advantage savings card thing and he then proceeds to yell across the store to his mother asking her if he can use her card. At this point, I pull out my card and hand it to the cashier and told her that he can use mine. So FINALLY I get checked out and leave the store. Waited about 15 minutes in the express lane for that.
So later that afternoon, I went to meet up with some friends to play some Wii/XBox 360/PS2 games and just generally hang out. A plan was worked out for the weekend where I would stay overnight at one of my other friends places since they’re closer to Target than I am and I was going to be over there Sunday, on call for helping out with a school project that involved some PHP web programming anyway. So that’s what happened. Cut to Sunday…
Sunday
Sunday I was awake at 5am, trying to get a Wii from Target, but I decided not to actually get up and going until 6 because I didn’t think there would be too much of a line. I get going, get to the store about an hour and 15 minutes before it opens and there’s already a line of, apparently 28 people. So I got in line, I’m number 29. The person in front of me turns around and said that we might be out of luck since the word is they only have 27 and the person in front of her is 27…but we waited it out just to make sure. They came out about 20 minutes later and confirmed they only have 27. I met another friend of mine in line behind me, so we took off to best buy to see if they were going to get any in.
We get to best buy around 7:20-ish and there’s one guy standing outside. My friend called his girlfriend and got her to check the Sunday paper ad and it wasn’t in there, so instead of waiting in line for an hour and 40 minutes in the freezing cold before the manager got there at 9 (the store opened at 10), I decided to just go back to my friends. Which ended up being a smart decision since they ended up not having any.
So I spent the day playing Zelda on my friends Wii, hanging out and not really helping out with the programming project because, as it turns out, I wasn’t really needed. But I had fun, as always hanging out and stuff.
The extreme fun of the weekend didn’t make coming back into work this morning any easier though. That set of annoyances, however, will be saved for another posting…
Insert Witty Topic Here
0Had my friend over last night, which was fun. We grabbed some dinner from Applebees and then spent the rest of the evening playing the Nintendo Wii she brought over (I just can’t bring myself to make bad jokes with the name…)
I’ve determined that I’m hopeless when it comes to Zelda. I had to ask for help with the Tutorial section. Perhaps it would have gone better if I didn’t have an audience who already knew what to do, so I might give the game another try later down the line. I’ve also determined that my fitness age is somewhere in the upper 60s, I can’t hit home runs and I suck at baseball (which kinda goes with the home runs thing), boxing and tennis.
Ahhh…Relief
0The Britney Spears christmas music I mentioned yesterday is nowhere to be found today. I think somebody figured out how to turn it off in here. Woohoo.
Tonight will mark the first ever time I’ve had someone other than immediate family over to my apartment to hang out for a bit, so I had to clean last night. A lot. Oh well, it gave me an excuse to clean the place up which I so desperately needed. This all came about when I was talking to said friend yesterday and she mentioned her husband was kicking her out of the house for the night (along with the Wii) so he could get some schoolwork done since it’s nearing the end of the semester and there’d been too much temptation to slack off otherwise, I guess. Anyway, I offered to play host for the evening, so she (and the Wii) is coming over tonight for a little while.
In other news, dentist’s are still evil. I believe I mentioned before that I had to back for an appointment to have…something…done. Well, I got a cavity filled today. I hate needles…ugh. Now the left side of my mouth is kinda sore, but that’s to be expected I guess. The numbness wore off a few hours ago finally.
QotD: Thanksgiving
0What are you thankful for?
I’m thankful that I have a family that wants to help me out, friends to fall back on when things don’t go as planned and a steady job with which I can support myself, which is more than a lot of people out there have. As much as I complain about my job or school or whatever, It helps to stop and realize that not everybody is quite as fortunate.
I am, however, not thankful for my alarm clock, which woke me up at 6:30 on my day off. It should have realized and turned off the alarm. What?? Quit looking at me like that!
Guitar Hero, Woo!!
0Ok, so my previous post was a little too early. It turns out they hadn’t updated the tracking number and my package was delivered about an hour ago.
I’m going over to a friends house this evening to get together and do some rocking out as well. Mmm…Guitar Hero… The only thing that could make it better is if they included some Dream Theater in there. It’d definitely fall into the hard to play category
General Work Happenings
0It seems they’ve finally fixed the AC. It was actually a decent temperature when I came in this morning. Which was good because I didn’t need anything to add to my not so good morning.
My bad day which began yesterday continued this morning. I thought I had fixed the e-mail problem, but it turns out, it didn’t work. So I spent all day morning working on trying to fix the problem. As it turns out…it was a setting in the program, and not my code that was causing the problem. ARGH!
Well, at least I think so. I’m still waiting to hear back from the customer if it worked or not. I think it will *crosses fingers*
Hopefully tonight I can relax a little bit though, since it’s been a rough couple days. I’m going to have dinner with some friends and then pick up Final Fantasy XII while I’m out and about as well. Hopefully the lake effect snow we’re supposed to be getting either misses or holds off until I get home. My car sucks in the snow.
Delivered!
0.hack//G.U. was delivered today. Now all need to do is swing by my parents (I send all my large packages there) and pick it up.
I’ll be glad to get something new to play with. Today’s been quite the long, frustrating day, as has been the custom recently. I dunno if it’s really getting frustrating or if it’s just because of the same things grating on me and stressing me out after a while. That probably didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but I’d really rather not get into it in too much detail.
By the way, the friends that are going on the Wii campout on release day keep trying to get me to join them. Ain’t happening! First I’m not crazy, second I don’t have the money for a whole new console system plus games right now. But that’s not going to stop them from trying to convince me
5 more minutes and then I’m out of here.
QotD: The Day I Met My BFF(s)
0How did you meet your best friend(s)?
It was 5 years ago in college. My first year of college, I took an C++ course and two of the three people I consider best friends were in that class. I can’t remember how we actually started talking, but soon we became really good friends. The 3 hour breaks between classes where we’d set up laptops and play multiplayer computer games over a network (started with me bringing my switch…ended up being a wireless network by the time we left).
The third person I’d consider to be in the best friend category, I met because she’s the wife of one of my other friends. The relationship just kinda grew out from there.
QotD: The Best Part of Summer
0What was the highlight of your summer?
Submitted by ladym.vox.com.
The highlight of my summer…well…there wasn’t really one specific highlight this year. Mostly just hanging out with my friends around the area, which is something I wasn’t able to do last year. The absence of something really makes you appreciate it a lot more when you can actually do it again.
The zoo trip was one of the highlights. That’d probably be my most fond memory of the time period. But there were other good ones too. The restaurant trip celebrating the end of the school year where the waitress brought us plates and butter and said “Here’s your bread” (I suppose you had to be there for that one). The comic book geek out day which consisted of nothing but comics and the Batman: The Animated Series DVDs…
Another highlight was probably going to the Renaissance Festival again this year with my sister. That’s always a good time.
