Finally Friday
Jun 6th 2008
The first full week back at work after you've been on vacation is…not fun. But I'm very glad I made it to friday. Not much actual stuff to report this week as I've gotten really heavily back into City of Heroes again and I've been playing pretty much all my spare time to get one of my villain characters up to level 50 so that I can explore some of the new content that came in with the last update. That happened Wednesday night so now I'm laying back a little bit and recharging.
Wednesday was also the day of the new Opeth album, Watershed. Well, it was technically released on Tuesday, but I didn't listen to it until Wednesday evening because Wassy and I had planned on hearing it for the first time together.
All in all it's a very solid effort. I doesn't top Ghost Reveries for me, but I think it's tied for second place with Blackwater Park. And it keeps getting more and more of a hold on me every time I play it again. The only song I really don't get is "The Lotus Eaters" because it's a little…strange. The rest of the disc though is just top notch. I'm really glad this release didn't dissapoint because I was looking forward to it a lot.
It's kinda strange hearing Opeth on CD though, since at the Albany prognation show I was within 5 feet of them when they walked past the meet and greet line. It's the same with Dream Theater and Three now. It's weird hearing people you've stood next to and exchanged a few words with playing music on a CD on your iPod. It just makes them feel more…real.
Anyway, I hope I'm able to make it through to the end of today all right. A bunch of bad storms swept through the area overnight and kept waking me up. That was combined with a couple of bad dreams, so I'm operating on very little sleep right now. And I have a headache. Blah!

It’s a Psychobilly Freakout!!!

Guitar Hero 2 co-operative play is fun. Really fun. It’s cool being able to play the same song, but have different parts. Some of the bass parts are even harder than the lead guitar sections. I spent a couple hours last night over at my friends playing co-op and regular modes.
I’ve also determined the I hate Buckethead. Because the unlockable song he made for GH2 is hard. I’m not sure if I’m going to get much Guitar Hero in tonight since my arm is sore from playing the bass track on the Rage Against the Machine song “Killing In The Name Of”. Most of it was easy. Then there’s this section where it’s a lot of really, really fast notes for like 30 seconds, all on the same fret. It hurt. A lot. Be warned!
Even without the guitar hero, I’m looking forward to 5 today since I’m taking off tomorrow. It’s like it’s Friday! But…one day earlier.
Friday Afternoon…
Sep 22nd 2006
I’m convinced that there’s some statistical law of the universe that forces Friday afternoon to seem like the equivalent of several years. I guess it doesn’t help that I’m not doing a heck of a lot here at work right now. I’m in the in between projects phase.
I even predicted I was going to be here earlier today, so I went above and beyond what was asked of me on what I was working on this morning. Warning, over simplification incoming! I work in software development, first of all. I had a to add a spell checker to one particular field in one part of our main application and I kinda added it to every field in every section of that part. I figure why wait for them to ask me to add it to another field when I can take care of it now…
That’s one of the moments I really enjoy. When something clicks and I find a cool way of doing a task that I’m really proud of. I can show people my little button and say proudly “Yep. That’s my spell checker!” And they’ll look at me like I’m crazy. “What’s so special about a spell checker?”. Well…they just don’t know what goes on after they click that button…
Geeze, I need to find something to do…
Wooo! Friday!

It’s Friday! Yay! This week has been crawling by for me. Well, more than usual. I went and bought my books for my class and my parking permit yesterday on my lunch break. Exactly $94 for a smallish pair of used textbooks.
I really don’t get it.
Anyway, I’m kinda looking forward to classes starting Monday now. It’ll be a break from my old routine of the past year which basically involved going to work and then coming home and then kinda hanging around until bedtime. I’m sure as the semester rolls on I’ll be less enthusiastic about it.
Another reason why this week has been going slow:
New Dream Theater CD next week! I know I’ve mentioned it before, but I’m such a fanboy, I’m going to mention it again
This weekend on VH1 Classic they’re showing a 1 hour teaser of the DVD, which I’m going to go over to my parents to watch since I don’t get cable here. I’m sure you’ll hear about it on Saturday.
I can’t wait for tuesday to get here.
If you don’t hear much from me early next week, this will be why
