The Stowaway Sock
0Wassy came over last night for some mid week type stuff. She normally comes over Wednesdays so we do stuff that we enjoy and that her husband doesn't (anime stuff, listening to various musics, etc). We had been trying to decide all day what we were going to do for dinner because we wanted to go someplace that wasn't Applebee's. We ended up deciding on Teddy's which is a Teddy Roosevelt themed local place. Pretty good food too. I haven't been there in a long time, but I think I'll be back sooner.
Anyway, while we were waiting for our food, I shifted my feet under the table and stepped on something soft. I looked down, thinking it was a napkin or something and as it turned out, it was a sock. Specifically, it was one of my socks. I guess it stowed away in the leg of my pants and I didn't notice until just then. I think it was trying to escape. That was probably the most random thing that happened during the night.
Well, that was second to the conversation about if somebody gets married, divorced and then re-marries the same person, does their "years married" counter start again at 1 or does it continue where they left off? I'm of the opinion that if the re-marriage happened within a short period of time after the divorce, it would carry over, but anything after saying…4-5 years you'd be starting again at 1.
We returned to my place for some Guitar Hero co-op action trying to restore my save file back to it's original state after it got horribly corrupted last week, and then we listened to some music. Oceansize mostly, because I recently rediscovered the CD after not listening to it for quite some time.
I Don't Totally Suck At Cooking
0I decided while grocery shopping tonight that I wanted to have something for dinner that I don't usually have. And Wassy had mentioned a recipe for salmon to me last week (or was it earlier this week…I can't remember. The holiday vacation kinda screwed up my concept of time) that looked like it was simple enough that I could tackle it with my limited cooking skills.
So I wandered around the grocery store trying to find where they put the stupid soy sauce. I also had to talk to somebody at the seafood counter to get my salmon (which, if you know me you'd know that was a big deal. I hate talking to people). Brought it home and started marinating.
An hour later I'm enjoying some salmon that isn't half bad. Definitely some room for improvement, but, well…I wasn't expecting to get it perfectly the first try. The next time I do it it'll be better. And there will be a next time because I have an awful lot of garlic products and soy sauce that I'm probably not going to be using otherwise.
I've been trying to branch out a little bit in regards to the stuff I eat for dinner. I'm trying to get away from pure frozen type stuff and try to move towards things that involve more than one step. Although one step is nice sometimes too.
QotD: Vox Potluck
0If your Vox Neighborhood had a potluck dinner tonight, what dish, drink or dessert would you bring?
I'm bringing drinks. Nobody really wants to eat my cooking. All right…it's decent, but I'm not comfortable enough to make anything for anybody else.
I might be able to pull off cookies, but that's about it as far as my cooking skills go.
As far as drinks go, I'd probably bring a bottle of White Zinfandel wine of some sort since I know at least two of my neighbors enjoy it. If It's an all ages occasion, probably a jug of soda or something.
Roaming Backups
0I’m currently carless. Well, I’ll have it back today, so this particular state won’t last that long, unless something horrible happens.
After I dropped my car off, I went out to dinner with my parents. When my dad handed me his coat so I could put it on the seat next to me, I realized that he had a computer backup tape in his pocket. I asked about it and that happened to be his offsite backup tape which he apparently carries around with him. So it’s more of a “roaming backup”. It seems to me that’s not the best plan for keeping your data secure in the event of a natural disaster. Espically since it’s in his office most of the time. I told him he should probably rethink the plan. He said he panicked this morning because it was warm out today and the tape was in his winter coat.
In other news, I bought grapes yesterday. Mmm…grapes. I haven’t had grapes in a looong time. I’m on a quest for healthier foods to snack on. Grapes seemed a logical choice. And they were on sale.
Expanding My Dinner Choices
0As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve been getting a little tired of the items I’m able to cook for myself for dinner recently. Last night I decided to take some action, so I went over to my parents last night before hitting the grocery store to inquire about additional food items which I might be able to cook that tasted good. My Mom gave me some good ideas such as Au Gratin potatoes and tips on how to cook rice.
So I get to try some of this stuff out now.
I’m such a food preparation newbie.
Labor Day is a Busy Grocery Day?
0I realized a little bit earlier today that I didn’t really have much food for dinner, so I went out to the grocery store to get some.
Wow…who would have thought people would be buying all their food items today? It was as busy as I’ve ever seen it. Maybe they were on their way to a mattress sale of some kind.
Anyway, Steve Irwin passed away today. The crocodile hunter, of course. It’s really a shame to hear since he did so much for the environment and zoos and stuff. As much as I’ve sometimes ragged on him in the past, he did a lot of great things for the world. He’ll be missed. I feel bad for his wife and kids though. Nobody should have to go through that.
