Cleaning Quest Update
Jan 27th 2009
I mentioned in one of my past weekend posts that I was going to try to put more effort into tidying up after myself to avoid allowing my apartment to become so horribly messy that it takes me hours to clean up all at once instead of a few minutes here and there every day.
Well, I am pleased to say that this effort is still continuing. My bedroom is still passable without climbing gear and my living area is fairly tidy. Could use a little work here and there, but I'm making sure that I'm not just letting things sit out forever after I'm done using them. Also helping is trying to take care of the dishes every night instead of letting things sit in the sink for a while out of pure laziness. Oh, and cleaning up the kitchen while I'm waiting for stuff to cook instead of leaving it for after.
It's an ongoing process, but one that seems to be holding up, more or less so far. Lets see how long that continues to be true…
Weekends Too Short!!!
Jan 19th 2009
Another weekend down, another couple days that went by way too fast.
Saturday, as usual was the hanging out with friends day of the weekend. I went over to their apartment to hang out, have some very nice pot roast and watch Tropic Thunder. We ended up seeing the Directors Cut because the one that I got from Netflix didn't come in time. So I went out to blockbuster to try and find it but they only had the directors cut version, not the theatrical cut. But in any case, the movie was extremely good. I especially enjoyed the DVD menu with epic music and the visuals poking fun at all sorts of war movies. I was very impressed with Tom Cruise as well. It was Tom Cruise not playing Tom Cruise if that makes any sense to you, and it was a really good performance. Very fun movie.
After the movie and the pot roast we moved on to more relaxing. We had a bottle of peppermint schnapps that we were going to partake in, however there was a little oversight in reading the label and er…we ended up VERY tipsy. We're not the kind of people who drink with the aim of getting drunk. We much prefer it for being tasty and getting a little bit of a buzz. This was a little more than a buzz…don't think I'd care to repeat that experience again although it was pretty fun once.
I ended up feeling a little queazy on Sunday, but nothing too bad. Sunday I spent doing a major clean of my bedroom. Every time I do one of these I get just a little bit further along in the process. I got about 60-70% done and I'm planning on working on it some more this evening to see if I can get it totally done. So far so good though. I've been working on keeping things cleaner because I'm tired of having to spend entire weekends cleaning the place up all the time. The living room/kitchen area is going pretty good so far, but I know me…so we'll see how this ends…
Weekendy Goodness
Nov 24th 2008
It's Monday. So…aside from being back at work, it means it's time for the update on my weekend activities.
Friday evening I found myself over at my parents house where they had invited me over to watch a movie (I Am Legend specifically). Lured by the promise of real, old fashioned popped popcorn, I headed over. After sufficiently tiring out the dog, we started working on the popcorn popping process. Which was…quite an ordeal. I was reading off the instructions on the popcorn, and my mom and dad both had different ways in which they popped popcorn on the stove. Somehow we managed to combine all of these separate methods into something that worked. One quick note about the popcorn: the buttery flavored oil had no actual butter in it. Scary.
I thought the movie was good, but my parents seemed to not enjoy it as much. I didn't think it was awesome, but it was a good mindless sort of fun type movie. I did determine where my lack of bravery comes from as I witnessed my mom nearly covering her eyes at some points and hugging the dog. This proves that the ability to tolerate scary movies is genetic.
Saturday I went over to my friends, Rock Band in tow, as has become the ritual. Wassy had to do some work, so I played a game of Chess with Jay (well…several games of chess…I had forgotten to turn off the 10 minute per game timer so he ended up losing 2 times in a row before I figured it out). It was an…interesting experience. It seems that Jay has a habit of scheming out loud.
Him: How much do you value your knight?
Me: Very much thank you. I have two of them.
Him: Or do you…?
Me: Yes I do!!! They're both right there on the board!!
And so on. This is the first time we've played when we're in the same room, so I didn't know about this before. It seems he does it all the time. From that moment onward "Or do you…?" or variations of that became the catch phrase of the day. Especially during our scrabble game later in the evening. Speaking of scrabble, we watched the Word Wars documentary (about world champion competitive scrabble) using Netflix while we were hanging out during the afternoon. It was good but the people they chose to focus on were some of the biggest losers and jerks on the planet…There was nobody sympathetic, except for one of the guy's parents who said when asked how he was doing during a scrabble tournament: "I'm kicking ass!"
Sunday was my day of cleaning. Since I finished Fallout 3 on Friday, I have to wait for Gamefly to send me a new game which probably won't actually arrive until after Thanksgiving due to how the mail is this week. So I've decided to spend some time doing a really exhaustive cleaning of my apartment. I got my bedroom mostly cleaned up yesterday and did a lot of living room organizing in the evening. I picked up wall-e on DVD and was watching the commentary while cleaning up my living room.
I also attempted a new dish for dinner. Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo to be specific about it. Making everything from scratch including the sauce. It ended up being pretty good, but I need to adjust a few things with the sauce. I let it thicken a bit too much and I need to add a little more cheese to my next attempt (a side effect of the thickening…didn't want to add too much cheese or it would have been WAY too thick). But there will be a next attempt…oh yes…
This week is going to be a long short week. Short because of having only 2 days of work this week. Long because that's followed by 5 days off, Thanksgiving with the family being one of the days. This week is going to be…very strange.
I Need Roadies
Nov 17th 2008
It's that time again…time to catch up on what was going on with me this weekend.
Saturday was the usual hanging out with the friends day. I went out to their place, bringing Rock Band and my 360 along so that our band, The Awesome Sauces could go on tour again. I really need to get some road crew members to pack and unpack this stuff. But it's very fun playing, so I don't mind transporting the setup around. We played some Rock Band, obviously, watched some TV and generally hung out and had a very fun time doing so. And also got to have some homemade pumpkin bread that Wassy made up which was very awesome. (And it's even better the next day with tea)
Moving into Sunday I was determined to get some cleaning done around the house. My bedroom had again fallen into a total wasteland of stuff everywhere so I was determined to spend an hour or two and get as much cleaned up as I could. I ended up getting about 1/3rd of it taken care of. And I also finally went through my closet and dumped a bunch of old stuff that I hadn't taken out of there since I took it out of the moving box and put it in the closet 3 years ago. I went through a box of old computer games and programs, most of them DOS games or games that won't run on today's version of windows. I dumped pretty much everything except for 4. Then I went through the top of my closet and took out/organized a lot of my old computer crap that I thought I would use but never did. I have a lot of new found storage space now, which is desperately needed.
Would You Like Some Cheese With That Whi– Er…Wine?
Jun 16th 2008
Time for a weekend update post! This weekend started with me in the mood for some relaxation after some events that happened on Friday, but the weekend delivered…at least Saturday did. My friend Wassy has been having some really good results from her site and had been getting a bunch of commission requests. Which is good and bad. Good because her little business is starting to actually go somewhere. Bad because it keeps pushing back a piece that I wanted to have done that's all City of Heroes related.
But because of that for our weekly get-together we ended up just hanging out at their place while I played some City of Heroes with Jay and she did her artwork stuff. I must say, she has a fine system for playing games while laying down on the couch and I must figure out how to do this at my place. It's very comfortable. The evening was capped off by a little wine and some fruit and cheese type snaking which ended up being very good. All nice and relaxing (and productive for her at the same time)
Sunday though I was in the mood for something productive. So I decided that I was going to finish the de-cluttering project that I had started a while agot and totally failed with. I attacked the mess in my bedroom which resulted in 5 bags of garbage for the trash guy to take away this morning, along with a whole lot of cardboard. I've got a ton of computer related items which I'm never going to use. I'm at a premium for space anyway, so I really need to either chuck it or sell it. Most of this stuff is in the "chuck it' area unfortunetly. I manged to get a good way into it and as soon as I get home today I'm going to continue the process. Well, after I exercise. I really need to get rid of some stuff that I NEVER use. Like my old Sega Game Gear, for example.

I Forgot It Was That Shade Of Green…
Oct 5th 2007
I was saying last night how I would like to invent a time machine (or buy one, since that would probably be easier…) and zap myself back to when I was first considering getting my fish. At that point, I had said to myself "I can do fish…fish are easy!" I would like to go back in time so I can slap myself.
This sudden outrage at myself is caused by the fact that I spent about an hour last night with a toothbrush and my aquarium decorations cleaning of gunk. I only got about halfway done too, before I decided my hands were far too pruny and I should probably put the rest off. Some of those plants have an awful lot of leaves.
The tank does look much, much more colorful now though. It was starting to look pretty depressing.
Those fish better appreciate everything I do for them…
All Sorts of Messes
Jul 15th 2007
I'm never going to let my bedroom get as messy as it was again. I swear! I say this because I spent a large portion of yesterday cleaning up the mess. Or more accurately, making the mess a little more organized so that it can be cleaned up. It's currently an ongoing process. Operation "clean up the clutter" is proceeding as planned, it's just an awful lot of work.
Wassy also came over last night to listen to some Transatlantic and other various proggy type things. She also wanted me to come up with an idea for something she should draw, but I failed miserably at that. I'm not creative and don't do well with coming up with stuff when pressured…doomed to failure from the start sadly. I also went to Friendly's to actually eat there for the first time. Honey BBQ Chicken Supermelt…mmmm…. Messy, but good.
I also finished re-reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince which was just as good as it was the first time I read it. I decided that since book 7 is coming out soon, I should brush up on my Harry Potter a bit since I couldn't really remember any of the messes the gang got into in the last book, so I checked out Book 6 from the Harry Potter library (aka, my sister).
I read the entire thing in a couple days, which doesn't beat my record of 24 hours for the Order of the Phoenix…but then again, I'm not sure anything will.

Upcoming Activities
Dec 29th 2006
After my grueling two days of working this week, It’s time for the weekend with more fun activity type things happening.
Tonight I’m going out to dinner with some friends and then hopefully bowling (assuming it’s not league night like it was the last time we tried to do this
).
Saturday I must clean again, because Sunday my family is coming over again to make use of the Wii. It seems they really enjoy it, which is fine with me because I did spend money on those extra controllers after all. And it makes me clean the apartment. This place has never been this clean for this length of time before.
I Need To Have People Over More Often
Dec 21st 2006
I need to have people over to my apartment more often I think.
Aside from the socializing and having parts, it also forces me to clean up. That’s my project for tonight since I’m having a friend over Friday, and as I had mentioned previously, I’m having my family over on Sunday (and possibly some on Monday as well)
My arms feel like they’re about to fall off though, from playing with the new Wii so much, so this weekend is going to be interesting considering the main purpose for having people over is to have some fun with the new system. I’m using muscles that I didn’t even know existed.
1.5 hours to go until my 5 day vacation starts.
Ahhh…Relief
Nov 28th 2006
The Britney Spears christmas music I mentioned yesterday is nowhere to be found today. I think somebody figured out how to turn it off in here. Woohoo.
Tonight will mark the first ever time I’ve had someone other than immediate family over to my apartment to hang out for a bit, so I had to clean last night. A lot. Oh well, it gave me an excuse to clean the place up which I so desperately needed. This all came about when I was talking to said friend yesterday and she mentioned her husband was kicking her out of the house for the night (along with the Wii) so he could get some schoolwork done since it’s nearing the end of the semester and there’d been too much temptation to slack off otherwise, I guess. Anyway, I offered to play host for the evening, so she (and the Wii) is coming over tonight for a little while.
In other news, dentist’s are still evil. I believe I mentioned before that I had to back for an appointment to have…something…done. Well, I got a cavity filled today. I hate needles…ugh. Now the left side of my mouth is kinda sore, but that’s to be expected I guess. The numbness wore off a few hours ago finally.
