Oooh, Buttons!

I’m pathetic. As mentioned in a previous post of mine…I have some sort of a thing for new mice. I’m not entirely sure what it is about them, but I see something with a scroll wheel and some buttons and I just have to have it.

So it’s not surprising that I just purchased a Logitech V400 notebook mouse for my MacBook Pro. It being a 5 button + tilting scroll wheel, compact mouse with a built in place to stick the USB receiver part. It’s really pretty nice. I played about 2.5 hours of City of Heroes using it while on a Task Force and it’s pretty comfortable for it’s size.

I’m a sucker for mice.

Morons And The Internet

What is it about the Internet that brings out the worst in a lot of people? Is it really so hard to believe that behind the text you’re reading on the screen…there’s a real person sitting there typing?

Anonymity and the Internet is pretty well discussed. The prospect of Anonymity changes some people. They take it as an excuse to be, well…morons without having to deal with the consequences. Insult a guy online, you’re probably never going to see him again, right? No big deal! Of course you would never say the same thing to the persons face.

Maybe it’s that the individual has a problem even thinking of someone else they meet online as a person. It’s a fairly abstract concept, to be fair. Attaching just disembodied text to a real person might not be the most natural thing in the world. I would hope that people would realize how that text is getting there in the first place.

I dunno, maybe I’m holding humanity to too high of a standard. Luckily, some people still have common sense about this stuff. Perhaps the morons are just the vocal minority.

This whole rant was brought about by reading the PvP forums today on the official City of Heroes forums, something which I usually don’t do. For those not familiar with the area, it’s the cesspool of the forums, with flames and insults going back and forth at the drop of a hat. It just amazes me that people can behave that way towards one another.

Sorry about the rant. Slow day at work here.

City Of Ice

I have a strange hobby: I enjoy helping people out who play MMOs. I don’t know what compels me to do so, but I just have to. I’ve spent stupid amounts of time writing a guide to my particular favorite class in City of heroes, the Ice Controller, and thankfully it was very well received by the community.

There’s been a call for an Ice Domination guide for City of Villains, and considering I’m half done with it already (a lot of the Ice Controller stuff is transferable to Ice Dominators), well…might as well make the leap and do it.

Hopefully it’ll be as well recieved as the Controller guide was.

Forum Software Upgrades

Warning…tech-y alert ;)

Over on the X Syndicate website (the City of Heroes/World of Warcraft guild thingy I help maintain. Well, the CoH party of it anyway), I use phpbb as the backend administration thing which takes care of all the logging in and user administration stuff. I then built the rest of the site around that.

So it was with great dread that I await the release of version 3.0, because a lot of stuff had changed. However, I just installed beta 2 over on a test server to check it out and it looks like everywhere that I look in the database has remained exactly the same between the two versions.

Yay for minimal changes! Of course I need to completly redo the forum skin. Oh well.
