QotD: Written By Yours Truly

If you could write a book about anything, what would it be about?

If it was a fiction book, probably some sort of either sci-fi or fantasy story . That’s what I read mostly anyway and what interests me most of the time. I actually started writing some short stories a while back, but then I realized I was not a gifted creative writer, so I left that up to the professionals.

Nonfiction, it would probably be some sort of book on City of Heroes since I know enough about that to write it ;) I kinda sorta already write for that anyway with my guide postings. Not too big of a leap to write an actual book. Either City of Heroes or  some type of computer related thing.

And if I could write any book in the world, it’d probably be some kind of handbook on social interaction that explained how to do it right in any situation you could possibly come across. Because I could certainly use something like that…

My Mistake

My Mistake

This book. That’s my mistake ;) I purchased it from Barnes&Noble earlier this week without really looking around at reviews…it ended up not being the book I was looking for, so I had to order something else on Amazon.

Now you know why I was a little hesitant to just buy a book on cooking for dummies yesterday.

What books are on your nightstand?

I just finished reading John Grisham’s The Broker, which ended up being a pretty decent book. The beginning ended up being a little on the slow side but about 100 pages in it really got moving. If you can accept everything in it at face value without really asking too many questions it’s an entertaining read. I’m not going to go into specifics because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but sometimes it was a tad hard to believe some of this stuff.

The ending was also a little bit less than satisfying. It ended up being a fun ride though.

As far as what I’m reading now, I’m attempting to get through the first book of Robot Jordon’s Wheel of Time series, The Eye of the World. I’ve always been interested in fantasy/sci-fi type books and I’ve wanted to tackle this series for a while. Every time I start the book though, I end up getting another book that I’m more interested in reading, or somebody lends me something. So this is attempt #4 to get through it. I know the first 50 pages by heart at his point :)

Don’t get me wrong, the book isn’t really boring, It’s just really bad timing.

My next book  is probably going to be JPod. I loved Douglas Coupland’s Microserfs, and I’ve heard really good things about JPod (and also some not-so-good things about it…but hopefully I fall on the “really good” side of the divide), so I’m probably going to be picking that up after I finish with The Eye of the World and before I delve into book 2 of the Wheel series.

One More Week Until Classes

0

Well, it just hit me today (and it’s a good thing it hit as well…) that classes start up for me on Monday. This will be my first class in over a year since I wasn’t able to actually sign up for anything I needed for the previous two semesters.

My situation is kinda odd. I work full time and go to school part time, which may not have been one of my brighter decisions…but it felt right at the time. Anyway, I’ve got about 3-4 classes, plus a large scale project that I need to do before I get my Computer Science degree. And I can only take classes at night or on weekends, which limits what I can take. Hence the year off.

But I’m back. I get to take American History (Colonies to the Reconstruction). Stuff I’ve already learned in high school, of course. But they like making you pay for classes, so they teach everything again. I’m not bitter. Nope.

I picked this particular course since I think that one of my teachers from high school is teaching it. He was a really good teacher then and it wouldn’t surprise me to learn he’s moved up to teaching at a college level. Hopefully I’m right and this is the same person. Otherwise, I may be in for a bumpy ride.

I need to swing by the school tomorrow and pick up my parking permit and books. Books are going to run me about $94. Yay for the overpriced textbook market!
