The Wonderful Underwater World

0

It's been about a week since I stuck some fish in my aquarium and all is going will. My 4 little Zebra Danio's (only one of which has a name, Ol' One Eye. I'll give you one guess as to how he got his name) are doing really well. They've been zipping around pretty actively. They had their fins clamped close to their bodies for most of the first two days but now they're all extended and such, so it looks like everything is going according to plan. Water tests reveal the same.

Ol' One Eye enjoys hanging out near the filter and swimming in place where the current is strong. He's kinda…freaky. Wassy thinks he's going to flip out and kill everything in his path one day.

Anyway, tonight I'm going to swing out by a pet shop and pick up some Harlequin Rasbora's as my next fishy purchase. They're cool looking and were suggested to me by a member of the Tropical Fish Forum. And they have a cool name.

I'm also getting an itch to start my 5 gallon beta aquarium, but…must resist urge! Need to use the money elsewhere. Like…buying a new pair of glasses for example.

I HAVE FISH!!

0

So after 3 weeks of waiting…FINALLY…I have fish in my aquarium. It's now home to 4 Zebra Danio's, one of whom (as pointed out by Wassy when she stopped over quickly to view them) has one eye. Oh well. Anyway, these things are really hard to take a picture of, so I wasn't able to get many really good shots of them that weren't real blurry, but…

Fish!! I have fish!!

I'm hoping that all goes well so next week I can add a couple more until eventually, I'm at full capacity. Woohoo.

Fishy Update!

0

Well, right now my new aquarium setup is attempting to go through the Nitrogen Cycle fishless, so it's going to be a couple weeks at the least before I actually put some fish in there.

I've also been thinking about the contents of my tank, and I think I'm going to put off the betta idea and maybe get a smaller 5 gallon tank later on maybe for it. There's just too much stuff you have to think about when sticking a betta into a community tank like that, like making sure the currents aren't too bad, but then other fish like the currents and…it's just too much.

So I think I'm going to do a standard tropical type tank. I need to do some research on some good fish to stick in it when it's done bacteriafying.

Freedom is Best Served Cold

0

I finally found some of Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream ice cream last night at Wal-Mart! I'm a semi-recent Colbert convert (if you consider a couple months to be "recent") so naturally, I was trying to find it all over the place. Finally struck gold at Wal-Mart last night.

It's quite tasty too. Not as good as Edy's Loaded Cookies & Cream, but still pretty good. Mmm…taste those chunks of freedom.

Fish update time: The water temperature stabalized at 79-80F which means my heater is working fine. Woohoo! It's going to possibly be a few more weeks before I actually stick fish in there though. I've decided I want to cycle it fishless to build up all of the good bacteria stuff without throwing a fish in there. This is assuming my patience continues as it is…

I figure it's not very nice to throw something into a pool full of toxic waste. That and I wouldn't enjoy if my betta kicks the bucket because I was impatient. I can wait a little bit.

In other news, nintendo finished fixing my broken wii remote. It should arrive today. They took it as a warranty repair which was handy because it was right at the end of it's 3 month warranty. I thought I might have had to pay for replacement…

Gravel Rinsing Blues

0

So I went out last night and pretty much bought everything I needed to set up my aquarium so I can get my fish. For the record, rinsing gravel is something I never, ever want to do again.

I need a few more plant like things, probably an airstone bubble blowy dohicky and a pump, and a soda bottle that I can cut up and use to dampen the currents coming out of the filter.

I'm waiting for the temperature and tank conditions to stabilize now. I need the water temp to be in the 75-80 range and stay there. Things were 72 degrees when Ieft this morning for work.
