Thinking Outside The Box
0Well, I’ve found a solution to my iPod+iTunes problems for now until Apple gets it’s act together and puts out an updated version for windows. Of course this isn’t going to work for everyone…
Hardware needed: 1 Apple Mac (MacBook Pro in my case). 1 Audio cable (I’m going to use an optical cable as soon as I can go grab one). 1 sound card on the PC with an audio input.
Basically, I’m running a cable from the macbook over to my Audigy 2′s line-in and using that to play music from my laptop on my main speakers. It works! And additionally, the iPod syncs sooo much faster in OS X, it’s kinda amazing.
And my new iPod has left China.
More Apple Stuff
0They shipped my iPod. Woohoo! Of course it’s coming from China. I’ll probably get it monday.
Still no luck on the iTunes front. I’ve been reading the support messageboard and at least I’m happy to say that I’m not alone in my misery. Hopefully the firestorm will cause apple to come out with a fix for the problem ASAP. It seems to be affecting Quicktime as well.
Of course, some people are trying to pawn the problem off on the users. When you get a ton of people with one post registering just to chime in that they’re having a HORRIBLE time with iTunes 7, I think you’ve got something more than a driver issue.
*Kicks iTunes*
0I updated to iTunes 7 last night and I guess it’s a bit buggy. I’m having some problems with sound file stuttering when I’ve got another program that uses the sound card open at the same time. I think I’ve found a fix while browsing the apple support forums this morning, but we’ll have to see if it works when I go home for lunch.
The automatic importation of album art thing is also a little buggy. it sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t work. Hopefully they put out a patch quick to fix some of this stuff, a lot of people don’t seem to be able to play music now.
Maybe it’s just a plan to get people to switch to the Mac version
Come on apple, ship my iPod!
I’m Pathetic
0…and $350 poorer. Remember that thing I posted a while ago about not having any willpower?
Well um…Apple just announced new iPods and um…lets just say I lasted a grand total of 40 minutes before I broke down and placed an order for a 80GB…in Black.
Rationalization phase here:
My current iPod is breaking down (still have to whack it on the back every so often), I really like the new UI stuff they’ve done with the iPod and, well…I’m a sucker. I do really use it. I rarely go anywhere without my iPod with me.
Meh
0For some reason I’m feeling kinda kinda meh today. Not sick or anything…just a lot of stuff that normally wouldn’t annoy me seems to be doing so today.
I think I’ll avoid contact with people as much as possible.
Anyway, I’m eagerly awaiting the Apple announcement for later today. If they release a wide screen iPod I’m going to have to be locked away without Internet access because I really shouldn’t be buying something like that now…but I’m going to be tempted to. Oh so tempted…
Oooh, Buttons!
0I’m pathetic. As mentioned in a previous post of mine…I have some sort of a thing for new mice. I’m not entirely sure what it is about them, but I see something with a scroll wheel and some buttons and I just have to have it.
So it’s not surprising that I just purchased a Logitech V400 notebook mouse for my MacBook Pro. It being a 5 button + tilting scroll wheel, compact mouse with a built in place to stick the USB receiver part. It’s really pretty nice. I played about 2.5 hours of City of Heroes using it while on a Task Force and it’s pretty comfortable for it’s size.
I’m a sucker for mice.
Willpower and Me
0I have no willpower. Ask my friends. They’ll tell you about how I can rationalize anything. How I went from going to buy a MacBook Pro in “a few months” on Monday to being in the Apple Store on Saturday, $2000 poorer. My soft spot is mice or input devices. If it’s cool, I MUST have one. That’s the reason I just got a MX1000 to replace a perfectly good Logitech G7.
I have no willpower. I know when I start rationalizing things, and I know that I shouldn’t be buying some of the stuff I do. But I do it anyway. No idea why.
So the latest object of my desire is a digital camera. The Vox Hunt kinda pushed along my buying process a bit. I want a real camera, as I’m getting tired of having to take pictures with my phone. My phone could have a worse camera, I know…but it’s not really that good either. The reason I mention this is I went out this afternoon to the store to buy some breakfast cereal and almost came home with a digital camera. I say almost because good sense kicked in just at the last moment.
I figured it might be a good idea to do some research first instead of just grabbing one that looked nice. Also, I still owe my parents money from when they helped me pay for my car transmission breaking apart. So anyway, I’m looking around for a digital camera in the $100 to $150 on a digital camera. Nothing fancy, mind you…just something that’ll take pictures that look good. Working on OS X is a plus, although I guess they would all kinda work. I guess I’ll look around some.
But if I write in this blog that I bought a digital camera in the next week or so, somebody smack me please.
My Sick iPod :(
0My 4th generation iPod (with color screen) is kinda flaking out on me again. Which is annoying, since if I have to send it in to Apple, this would be my 3rd replacement model. Since March. It seems like the hard drive is having trouble starting up, so when it needs to access the hard drive, sometimes it’ll freeze up and start making some fun clicking noises, like it’s trying to start up but can’t.
Never fear though! If I whack it a few times on the back, it’ll start up perfectly. I end up having to do that at least once or twice a day now. I’m hoping it gets to the point where it won’t start up again so I can send it into Apple (which to their credit, does have really good support, both in store at the genius bar and through the mail) to have it fixed with some certainity that they won’t send it back to me and say it’s working.
I’m trying to limp along until October when my original iPod waranty ends and my Best Buy protection plan kicks in. That way I can get an upgrade to the Video iPod, which hopefully won’t have so many issues…sigh.
OS X Leopard Screenshots
0It was only a matter of time really. Apple gave out developers copies of Mac OS X Leopard to all the attendees of the World Wide Developers Conference, so it figures that there’s going to be some leaked screen shots of the new features.
There’s a forum post over at AeroExperience which has a whole bunch of screen shots.
I’m eagerly awaiting this update, as I just jumped into the world of Apple in April with my MacBook Pro (possibly the best laptop I’ve ever owned). I’m really looking forward to the Spaces virtual desktop stuff. I already use Virtue to do it, but it has some rough edges that I hope apple will address.
