It's HOT Out
Jun 9th 2008
It's been hot all weekend and it's supposed to be even hotter out today and tomorrow. So it's with a thankful tone that I can report that I finally have air conditioning in my apartment. Last year my friends donated their old AC unit to me because their new place had one built in. I finally got around to asking them if it was all right for me to run something (since utilities are included in my rent, I figured I should ask with something that uses up electricity like that) and their reply "You don't have AC already?" was enough for me. Another reason I wanted to run AC was due to my fish. My betta's tank heats up dangerously (was 84-85F on saturday) without it, so I need something to keep the temperature in the apartment down below 80 degrees if I can.
So my parents came over yesterday to help me install the thing (that sucker's heavy) and I turned it on and it works. Glorious cold air, streaming into my living room! I don't know how I lived without one of these things before! I think the dehumidifier aspects make it even better. Humidity sucks.
Anyway, rounding out my home improvements for the weekend was the installation of a Pur water filter on my sink. I had been using a brita pitcher for a while and liked it, but it was annoying having to fill it up all the time, so I figured a faucet filter would be a better way to go. I ran into a little snag when I tried to put one of the included adapters on my faucet and found out it wasn't the right size. I got halfway to the hardware store before I realized that the size my faucet was and the size it needed to be adapted to where actually the same size. Oops. After that little hangup everything proceeded nicely.
Oh, I also saw a couple of movies over the weekend. First up was Indiana Jones 4, which I thought was pretty good right up until the last 15 minutes or so. But it had everything I'm looking for in an Indiana Jones movie. Some of the witty dialog seemed forced at times, but overall, it was a fun ride and I don't regret seeing it. After that I went back to my friends place (we saw Indy together) and we ended up watching Enchanted which was very good. Disney making fun of itself and taking the whole animated movie thing to ridiculous levels of absurdity was awesome. And the scene where the prince leaps off a bridge and begins singing only to get run over by a bunch of bikers is funny every single time.

People Who Can't Read
Sep 9th 2007
I've become convinced that people on eBay can't/don't read item descriptions.
Why you ask? Because every time I put an item up, somebody always asks me "do you ship to <insert country here>?" despite the fact that I put "ships to the United States only" in the item description and the shipping calculator says "Ships to: United States". It's not like I set it that way on accident people!
It's not that I don't like people in other countries, it's that I don't want to have to deal with things like customs or making sure I have enough postage. This eBay stuff is already more work than I thought it would be starting out.. especially gathering everything in order to list it up there.
I'm running out of stuff to eBay now though. I've ran through all of my really expensive cards and I'm into the mildly expensive ones.
As you can probably tell since I posted this rant, I really don't have much to report about goings-on at the moment. Just business as usual around here. Well, just one thing…my friends are finally moving out from their current sub-optimal living conditions and since their apartment already has a built in AC unit, they're giving me their old window AC thingy. Woohoo! Of course I need to help lug heavy things into their new place. At least it's on the 1st floor.
General Work Happenings
Nov 2nd 2006
It seems they’ve finally fixed the AC. It was actually a decent temperature when I came in this morning. Which was good because I didn’t need anything to add to my not so good morning.
My bad day which began yesterday continued this morning. I thought I had fixed the e-mail problem, but it turns out, it didn’t work. So I spent all day morning working on trying to fix the problem. As it turns out…it was a setting in the program, and not my code that was causing the problem. ARGH!
Well, at least I think so. I’m still waiting to hear back from the customer if it worked or not. I think it will *crosses fingers*
Hopefully tonight I can relax a little bit though, since it’s been a rough couple days. I’m going to have dinner with some friends and then pick up Final Fantasy XII while I’m out and about as well. Hopefully the lake effect snow we’re supposed to be getting either misses or holds off until I get home. My car sucks in the snow.
This Is Just Getting Stupid
Nov 1st 2006
The air conditioning is broke. Again. Well, I guess it’s internal clock is off so it doesn’t turn on when it’s supposed to. As a result, it’s 85 in here every morning.
Isn’t there somebody out there who knows how to set this thing?!?
No Air Conditioning…
Oct 30th 2006
The power is back on. The air conditioning, however, is not. If you’re wondering why this is a problem in late October, well…the room I’m in has about 8 laptops/desktops and 1 server in it. These computers, plus the people, put out a lot of heat, so it could be the middle of winter and without the AC it’d be 90 in here. It’s quite amazing.
Something with the power outage this morning messed up the AC, so now it’s 80 degrees and still climbing. Not sure what happened. The hallway is much cooler than our room here. It’s going to be a looong day.
At least I can actually get stuff done now though
