QotD: Better on the Big Screen

0

If you could watch any movie on the big screen right at this moment, what would it be?

Serenity. I missed out on the whole Firefly thing when it was on TV and when the movie came out and only recently discovered this little gem of a series/movie. Now I wish I had known about it sooner and had the ability to go back and watch it in the theater when it first came out.

Another one would be Star Wars…the original. That movie just isn’t the same unless you’re watching it in a theater on a big screen.

QotD: Reflecting on September 11th

0

What are your personal memories of September 11th?

I was in my car driving to school with the first plane hit. The radio show I was listening to at the time (Kinda your standard comedy bit show that was local to the area) suddenly turned dead serious as they had a TV on and were reporting on what they saw.

My english class (first class of the day) was in a computer lab, so I spent a portion of the period trying to view news websites that were swamped. I stopped a pair of people in the hall afterwords who were talking about it and asked what had happened. I went to my math class incredibly distracted. After that, out in the parking lot, I learned they were closing the campus for the day. Which was too bad since I didn’t have any other classes after that.

I went to work and didn’t get much accomplished (not sure if anyone did there really). I spent more time trying to refresh news websites than I actually did working.

That night I was glued to the TV set. I was also on an IRC channel with some people I really don’t hang out with much anymore (the channel was for the discussion of a tabletop strategy game called Battletech) and we alerted each other to the news coming in as it came in through various sources. I remember scares of wondering if there were more hijackers out there…there was a bomb scare in the empire state building…etc. Everything was all crazy.

I still get sad thinking about it. That day was a major eye opener for me and lead to me questioning a lot about who I was and what I believed in. A lot of deep thinking about the point of it all and things like that.

How many places have you lived in your life?

Two places. My parents house and now my apartment. We almost moved once when my dad got laid off from his job but we ended up staying in the area because of me and my school stuff. It worked out for the best anyway, as he found something even better (which he’s still doing today)

QotD: Nice Save

If you could only save one thing in a house fire (thing, not person), what would it be and why?
Submitted by donnunn.

When I first read this question, a bunch of things came through my head. Like the MacBook, and things along those lines. Then I realized that those are just, you know…expensive stuff that can be replaced.

The one thing I have in my place that I couldn’t replace eventually is (shocker here ;) ) a drawing my friend did for me. It’s a pencil piece and she sent me the original, so I’ve got the only copy. If there was one thing I could save, it would be that, as it really means a lot to me. Everything else could be replaced.

Vox Hunt: Smile for the Camera

Show us your camera smile.

OK, you asked for it. There’s two smiles I can give you.

The MugshotSmile #1: The Mugshot

This is my normal smile. I simply can’t smile on camera without actually being happy about something and not make it look…stupid. So I normally go with no smile. See my profile picture for another example.

Mental InstitutionSmile #2: Mental Institution version

This is a smile you normally don’t see. That’s my fake smile. I think it looks more like I belong in some sort of an institution in a straight jacket, rather than an actual smile.

I’m not the most photogenic person in the universe.

What time period would you have lived in, if you could have lived at any time?

If I could have lived at any time period, I’d probably go back to the Renaissance (1400-1600AD or thereabouts), with the provision that I wouldn’t be a peasant. If I were a noble of some sort, that’d be fun, but…not real interested in being ordered around all the time.

The reason I’d pick that specific time period is that I’ve always been kinda intereted in it, starting back in sixth grade when we studied mideval times (I made a sugar cube castle!). The interest just kinda grew from there. There was all sorts of cultural stuff going on as well, which would be cool to experience first hand. Again we come back to the “not wanting to be a peasant” thing.

I probably wouldn’t last two days though. I’m not sure I could give up the internet ;)

QotD: Game On

What was the last game you played?

City of Heroes of course!  For those who might not be familiar, it’s a Massively multi-player online game where you get to be a Hero, straight out of a comic book. Or a villain if you prefer.

Anyway, I’m a bit obsessed with it if you hadn’t guessed.

The last non-mmo game I played was Starfox Commander for the Nintendo DS. Pretty fun game with some odd controls that make it a little tough at first. It’s not bad when you get used to them though…I’ve always been a big fan of Starfox. The original is what caused me to buy a SNES back in the day.

I’ve also been playing The Sims 2 with the Open for Business expansion pack that I just got. a couple weeks ago. Sim me enjoys lighting his stove on fire (twice in one night!) which isn’t too far off the mark from where I’m at with my own cooking skills.

And if we’re talking non-video games here I’d have to say Uno. A two and a half hour single hand of uno. And we didn’t even actually finish the hand. It was horrible :)

QotD: Written By Yours Truly

If you could write a book about anything, what would it be about?

If it was a fiction book, probably some sort of either sci-fi or fantasy story . That’s what I read mostly anyway and what interests me most of the time. I actually started writing some short stories a while back, but then I realized I was not a gifted creative writer, so I left that up to the professionals.

Nonfiction, it would probably be some sort of book on City of Heroes since I know enough about that to write it ;) I kinda sorta already write for that anyway with my guide postings. Not too big of a leap to write an actual book. Either City of Heroes or  some type of computer related thing.

And if I could write any book in the world, it’d probably be some kind of handbook on social interaction that explained how to do it right in any situation you could possibly come across. Because I could certainly use something like that…

What’s your favorite song to sing karaoke-style?  If you don’t have one, why not?

I’ve only done real karaoke  a couple times at a friends house, using Karaoke Revolution Party. We had a little competition going for a while since I kept beating her and she tried to pick songs to bring me down. Like Mariah Carey – I Will Always Love You and Aretha Franklin’s Natural Woman. But my favorite song out of all the ones that in the game is probably American Woman, the Lenny Kravitz version. My voice is pretty much in the same range as his, so I’m able to actually make it sound pretty good (I think anyway :) )

If I were to expand the question to my favorite song to sing along with, it’d have to be Spock’s Beard – The Light. It’s a long song…about 15-20 minutes or so but, for some reasons I find it really hard not to sing along with it. My vocal range is also pretty similar to Neal Morse’s, so I can take on a lot of the Spock’s Beard songs and do a pretty good job with them.

My Mistake

My Mistake

This book. That’s my mistake ;) I purchased it from Barnes&Noble earlier this week without really looking around at reviews…it ended up not being the book I was looking for, so I had to order something else on Amazon.

Now you know why I was a little hesitant to just buy a book on cooking for dummies yesterday.
