QotD: Kid Flick
Sep 4th 2006
What is your favorite children’s movie?
I’m going to morph this question into what my favorite movie was as a kid. Like a lot of young people, I grew up on disney movies. My two favorites were probably Aladdin and The Little Mermaid. I probably watched those two more than any other movie back in the day.
Aladdin was cool because of the songs and the humor of the Genie. The songs were Disney in rare form, really catchy, cool lyrics, etc. The Little Mermaid was great because of the story (well, at the time I thought it was the best thing ever
)
QotD: Three-Day Weekend
Sep 3rd 2006
What are your plans for the holiday weekend?
To me, this weekend is like a normal weekend. But longer. Yesterday, I hung around and relaxed a bit. Today I’m going to do the same thing, but with laundry thrown in (so I have clothes to wear tomorrow). Monday, more relaxing.
I plan on trying to finish Final Fantasy IV Advance though, and then maybe work on Tales of Destiny (old school playstation RPG).
But other than that, no real outing plans or special events. I’m boring.
QotD: Less Stress Please
Sep 2nd 2006
What is your favorite way to relieve stress?
Generally, I play video games. If I’m really stressed out I usually break out a FPS like Unreal Tournament 2004 or Half Life 2 multi player and play some on-line matches. Video games are my stress reliever.
Sometimes I also just kick back, put on some headphones and listen to some soothing music. Depends on my mood.
QotD: Can’t Get You Out of My Head
Sep 1st 2006
What song or lyrics are stuck in your head at the moment? What album is it from?
Submitted by Lox Ly.
I know I said no more Score stuff but I have to mention it because of this quesion. Dream Theater – Raise the Knife from Score. It’s the only song on the set that I haven’t heard before and it’s really pretty cool (and catchy). Just an excerpt of the lyrics. It’s a pretty long song.
I’ll take the blame for these things that I say
‘Cause I had the heart and the will and the courage to stay
Every day
I won’t walk awayReading through all the digests you show me
I notice the way that you think you control me
Doubting my future, you don’t even know me
But I never walked out on youRaising the knife
To a picture of a life
(I once knew)
There comes a time
Compromising my life
(Just won’t do)
I cannot lie
I can’t try anymore
(To reach you)
I just can’t fight
Raise the knife
Raise the knife
Cut through
QotD: Best. Villain. Ever
Aug 29th 2006
Who’s your favorite movie villain?
I’m going to have to go with Darth Vader here, as much as it pains me to choose something so obvious. The reason being he’s a three dimensional character. He’s not evil just to be evil…he has a hidden motivation and character depth for why he’s doing what he’s doing.
And in the end, he ends up doing the right thing. I can’t think of many other villains that share the same depth. He’s also just a classic villain. Dark. Menacing. Powerful. Without him to push the heroes, Star Wars just wouldn’t be the same.
QotD: I’m reading (or about to read)…
Aug 28th 2006
What books are on your nightstand?
I just finished reading John Grisham’s The Broker, which ended up being a pretty decent book. The beginning ended up being a little on the slow side but about 100 pages in it really got moving. If you can accept everything in it at face value without really asking too many questions it’s an entertaining read. I’m not going to go into specifics because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but sometimes it was a tad hard to believe some of this stuff.
The ending was also a little bit less than satisfying. It ended up being a fun ride though.
Don’t get me wrong, the book isn’t really boring, It’s just really bad timing.
My next book is probably going to be JPod. I loved Douglas Coupland’s Microserfs, and I’ve heard really good things about JPod (and also some not-so-good things about it…but hopefully I fall on the “really good” side of the divide), so I’m probably going to be picking that up after I finish with The Eye of the World and before I delve into book 2 of the Wheel series.
QotD: I’m Such A Nerd Because…
Aug 24th 2006
What’s the nerdiest thing about you?
Ok, first of all…I’m a geek. Not a nerd. There’s a slight difference. Geeks are nerds with social skills and no pocket protectors. You can probably pick a nerd out of a crowd, but a geek is a little harder to spot. I get a little touchy about the difference
Anyway, to answer the question, I’m really not sure. I do computer programming in my spare time for fun. That’s probably it right there. I enjoy figuring out how to solve a problem and seeing what I make actually work. That’s my only real useful like hobby I guess. The rest involves just playing video games and other time wasting things. I’m one of those people who learns a new programming language just for the heck of it.I also have a stuffed penguin collection. Tux the Linux penguin features promiently in there, but I do have another penguin that I picked up at the zoo (The friends I was with gave me some very odd looks after that one). That might be runner up on the geek-o-meter.
There’s nothing wrong with collecting stuffed penguins! Don’t look at me like that! I also have one of the Serta Counting Sheep that I got from my parents for Christmas a couple years ago after saying “I want a sheep!” a couple times when the commercial was on.
I also have a couple of the Neopet (quit looking at me like that again!) dragon type things from when McDonalds was doing their Neopet happy meal toy thing. My sister worked there at the time, so she was able to swipe a couple for me
Vox Hunt: That Rules
Aug 23rd 2006
Show us some rules.
Ok, in the interests of full disclosure…I did not take this picture. It’s a sign at westpoint military academy. One of my friends took a tour there and he saw this sign and had to take a picture. So I’m cheating a little but, but it’s for the benefit of everyone, isn’t it?
QotD: Teacher’s Pet
Aug 23rd 2006
What was (or is) your favorite subject in school?
I’ve always been into the science stuff. In high school at least. I’m a hands on kinda person, so having lab time where you get to experiment with stuff and see what you’re learning actually work is really cool and something you don’t normally get with other subjects.
When I got to college though, things turned slightly. Since I was taking things which are more in my field of interest, it ended up that any course that had to deal with computers/programming ended up being my favorite. It also helped that I had the most awesome teacher EVER. (Thank you Mr. Kotary!)
Unfortunetly, after I finished up my first two years, I got really dissatisfied with the whole thing since I really wasn’t learning anything new. So now I don’t really have a favorite subject…I’m just trying to get the shiny piece of paper that lets other people know I can do what I’m already doing.
