QotD: The Best Blend
Feb 28th
What’s your favorite blend or brand of coffee or tea?
I’m not really a coffee person, or a tea person, so I can’t really answer the question. Instead I’ll just interpret this to mean “your favorite hot beverage” in which case I’d have to go with the new White Hot Chocolate from Dunkin Donuts.
There are no words to describe how much I love this beverage. I pretty much stop by whenever I’m near a Dunkin Donuts and pick one up.
Mmmmm…

If you could write like one fiction author, who would it be?
Submitted by Marilyn.
I’m really into fantasy and science-fiction novels, and as such, I’d have to pick George R. R. Martin as an author I’d like to write like.
He has a way of crafting a story that grips you and doesn’t let go. Honestly, I’ve only really read his work in the Song of Ice and Fire series, but it’s really an excellent book. Probably some of the best fantasy/fiction writing I’ve read yet. He writes complex characters that I really came to care about over the course of the series, and with plot twists which I could never see coming. I’m not really that good at reviewing authors…so I’ll leave it at that I think. He’s one of my favorites.
A second choice would be Margret Weiss and Tracy Hickman, of Dragonlance fame. They’re not quite as “deep” as GRRM, but they can still write a good novel. And they’re not so good when they’re split apart, so if I picked them, I’d have to pick both of them.

Who was your best (or worst) elementary school teacher?
Submitted by Minnow.
My worst elementary school teacher was my 3rd grade teacher. Man, that Jerk didn’t teach me anything! Oh…wait…I skipped 3rd grade…Nevermind.
My worst elementary school experience, though was definitely 4th grade. Not even halfway through the year, our teacher (who’s name I can’t remember) left, leaving us with a string of substitute teachers, and then eventually, a 1st grade teacher who was brought up to teach 4th grade because he wasn’t showing up. Due to all of the substitute teacher-ing and the fact our permanent replacement was used to teaching 1st graders, well…I’m not sure we really learned much of anything that year.
In addition to all of this, our class was sandwiched into a little tiny room near the library and cafeteria kitchen with no windows and a door leading directly into the gym. Was probably some kind of utility closet or something until they decided they needed a classroom.
I distinctly remember being happy to get to 5th grade.
QotD: This Would Be Super

If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?
Submitted by J.T.
Hmm, this one’s a tough one.
After thinking about it, I’d probably go with invisibility. I’d like to be able to just fade out sometimes so that nobody bothers me or talks to me. Sometimes I don’t like to be social. Being invisible would help with that, I think.
Sorry, no grand “save the world” reasonings here. Although I wouldn’t mind helping if the situation ever came up.
Vox Hunt: Song In The Key Of Life
Feb 8th
Audio: Share a song that fits the moment you’re living right now.
Inspired by cherè.
I don’t have the song on me right now…I might throw it up later if I remember. I do have some lyrics though.
This song’s been floating around in my head for the past month or two pretty regularly. Specifically after the first chorus. Just been going through a rough time, with the changes at work in January.
My iPod seems to have a habit of playing songs on random that happen to apply to whatever I might be feeling at the moment. It’s rather strange. Anyway, it’s not QUITE as bad as the song might make it seem to appear, but it really does apply.
Spock’s Beard – Rearranged
I have never been in this
For all the fortune and fame
All I ever wanted
Was to be in the game
A part of something bigger
Something bigger then me
Inspired from love of the moment
And being what I was born to beSometime a dream gets wasted
Sometimes it all just falls and fades away
And you may feel you’ve made it
Then in a flash it all get rearranged
Deaf dumb and stupid
Or am I just plain nice
Live and let live was a mantra I used
More then once or twice
Thought I had it all going on
Thought I was cruising in 5th gear
In a snap it all went out of control
Everything that was so normal now seemed
So confusing and weird
Now the live and let live
That was so safe in my heart
Didn’t feel that sincere
Giving all that I had
Doing right I believed
I’ll just go cry in my beer
I blinked my eyes and I had a new life
This much is clearSometime a dream gets wasted
Sometimes it all just falls and fades away
And you may feel you’ve made it
Then in a flash it all get rearranged
QotD: Never Seen It
Feb 5th
What’s the most famous movie you’ve never seen?
Submitted by Mike.
Hmmm…I wonder if Vox has a character limit on postings…
Instead of answering the question, I’m going to just say that I’m severly movie deprived. If there’s a movie out there that’s considered “must see” there’s a pretty good chance that I’ve never seen it.
My friends have been trying to fix the situation, but it’s going to take quite some time…

Show us something weird that’s on your desk.
Submitted by Alex.
Here’s a BIG calculator from Staples. I got it as a christmas present from my parents. Kinda a jokey gift. There’s a stick of gum sitting on it (the shiny thing on the bottom) for scale purposes.
This is also on my desk at work. I’ve gotten a few comments from people wandering by. “Holy shit, that’s a big calculator” is my favorite so far.
Too bad it’s not solar
