Grey's Anatomy? Hardly…

0

I feel like I've been scammed somehow. Rant time!

I went over to my parents to watch the 2 hour Grey's Anatomy "event" last night (I'd watch it at my place, but…they have the HDTV…sooo….) and I feel ripped off. Instead of making it an actually interesting story, they took the opportunity to basically intercut the show with footage from the new spinoff pilot they're trying to get picked up.

The spinoff parts were horrible! There was nothing in there that was even remotely like what I enjoy so much about Grey's Anatomy (The quirky humor, the solid evolving storyline, etc). What was there were a ton of jokes about sex and a 5 minute (at least it seemed like 5 minutes) shot of the office receptionist turned surfer boy waxing his surfboard without wearing a shirt.

Yeah, I think I'll pass on the spinoff if it gets picked up, which may actually not happen still, considering most of the comments I've read around the internet this morning have been very, very negative about it. Anyway, even if it was good, I wouldn't watch it on principle. It's not right that they basically hijacked a show, promoted a 2 hour event and gave us a show that was 3/4ths NOT the show they told us we were going to be getting.

Bah. I want that 2 hours of my life back.

School Stuff

0

This semester of classes is finally over for me. I had my graphic design final last night and, according to the teacher, I did pretty well on it after he looked it over (after I turned it in of course). Not that I'm entirely surprised considering that it was an open notebook final.

So now I've got a 2 week break in classes until my summer class kicks in on May 21st. I'm taking Astronomy, not because I particularly want to take it, but because I need to take some more random courses in order to graduate. It could be worse though, at least it's something I'm somewhat interested in.

I went to the registrar earlier this week and talked to them about some questions I had. The short version is that instead of being able to graduate in December like I had hoped. I now need to take what amounts to be a couple more courses in order to get the required credits, so I'm pushed back into next year now. I'm getting very, very tired of all this.

QotD: My Daily Dose

0

What websites do you visit every day?
Submitted by Chez Michelle.

Wow, this one might take a while…

Usually the first destination of the day is my City of Heroes group's forums, X-Syndicate. Then after that I usually pop over to the City of Heroes official forums to see what's going on. Next it's woot.com to see if they have any cheap stuff that I might be interested in buying. Usually not though, but I keep checking…

After that it's off to Google Reader to check out all of the news feeds from all of the sites I'm interested in. At that point I usually branch off and visit anything that seems interesting.

Lately I've been browsing fish related forums as well, the Tropical Fish Forums being my favorite site that I've found. I usually stop by Newsvine which is the best place on the net that I've found for news. I usually end up over at PvP Online at some point during the day which is a webcomic that I like reading. Oh, and I usually pay a visit to the Mike Portnoy Forums. Mike's the drummer for Dream Theater (my favorite band if you haven't been keeping score) and I use that to keep up to date on what's going on with my favorite bands and such. New album next month!

QotD: Pet Food Recall

0

Have you been affected by the pet food recall?  Has it changed the way you feed your pets?

My non-existent fish are very happy with the imaginary food that I've been feeding them…

Vox Hunt: Fishy

Show us some fish.

Probably not exactly what you were looking for but…

Well, it's a fish. Or at least, it was a fish. We saw this thing floating in the Tidal Basin during the death march. My friends…they laughed at me when I took a picture of the dead fish… Little did they know it would come in handy down the road.

An Envelope On The Door

0

7 page essay on the foundation of society done! Only took 2,018 words and 3 hours at the library in the afternoon to write. After that I went over to my parents house for a bit and then came home after dinner to an envelope hanging on the outside door to my apartment.

From the car, I saw that it had some writing on it and at first I thought it had said something about "Jesus" since I was a little far away so I couldn't make it out clearly. I figured (as has happened in the past) some group was going door to door dropping off religious literature or something.

As soon as I got out of the car though, I realized that it actually said "Second-Favorite Jason", which is what Wassy has been calling me recently (Her husband, obviously, being the #1 Favorite Jason). I ran into the house to grab some scissors to cut it down (after which realizing there was a quick release string on the knot…but…oh well), then I opened it up….

Wheeee! New artwork! If you're wondering that's one of the characters (Probably my favorite one) that I played in City of Heroes (when I have enough time to play these days anyway).

I think this is probably the best piece of work that I've seen her do so far. I love the comic-booky with a hint of anime style. And the face. Oh, and the hair…and…uh…everything else. My gushing abilities are a bit sore from my reaction yesterday, but it boils down to: I love it.

And it was a complete and total surprise too. It seems her secret keeping skills are improving right along with her artwork. There were only a couple minor hints to this one, unlike the last one, and those needed to be pointed out after the fact. I should have picked up on something when she asked how long I had planned to be out doing my laundry this morning…

I need to go buy a frame now. Good thing I only have to go to class tonight to hand in my paper. I can swing by the store and grab something.

QotD: What Blogging Means

0

What are the positive and negative associations that you and those around you have with blogging?  Have attitudes changed over time?

When I first heard about blogging, I was…dismissive I guess. I didn't see the appeal of an online diary as I thought it was back when I first heard about it. Then I got pulled more and more into the web 2.0 world through podcasts (specifically Inside The Net), heard about Vox and something clicked. I think it was the whole Question of the Day thing. I think it was the first time I realized that a blog didn't have to be just about what I had for breakfast or whatever. So I jumped on board, and wow…I'm still doing it 9 months later.

When I first started doing this though, I worried about telling other people I knew about it. I wasn't sure what they'd think to be honest. Yes, that's right…my negative association of a social medium is in a social context. Figure that one out! I dare you. Eventually though, they found out and they don't think I'm a weird psychopath or anything. Well…at least if they do they haven't mentioned it to me… Heck, I even got my sister onto Vox.

QotD: Danger Is My Middle Name

0

When was the last time you did something dangerous?
Submitted by Ross

Easy…got in a car with my friend Jay driving it a couple weeks ago. Scary!

Seriously, I'm not exactly the danger loving type. The term "coward" might be applied possibly.

I mean, the most remotely dangerous thing that I can think of doing was taking a stroll through the streets of Washington DC at 8-9PM to go see the capitol building at night. That and taking the metro during rush hour. And honstely, both of those have the danger level of a possible stubbed toe or tripping on the sidewalk.

Oooh…I live on the edge!

Quit laughing!

Peggle Master!

0

Ok, this isn't good. I just got myself completley hooked on a little puzzle game from PopCap called Peggle.

It's so simple and yet…I can't stop playing this stupid thing. Stay away if you value your sanity!! The point is to shoot this little ball into a field of pegs in an attempt to remove all the orange pegs from the playing field. Every peg your ball hits gets removed after the ball goes off the bottom of the screen, and if you get it into the little moving bucket thing at the bottom, you get a free ball (you start out with 10)

I spent an awful lot of time last night playing this thing. I'm glad I decided not to check it out right away after hearing about it on the PC Gamer Podcast otherwise I'm not sure if I'd have gotten my final project for my graphic design course finished and handed in last night.

Hopefully I can break the addiction long enough to finish my 7 page minimum paper for my Western Civilization course on what school of thought should the foundation of society be based (Like science, religion, economics, etc) Fun.

QotD: See You Later, Decorator

0

What is your home decorating style, and how has it changed over time? Do you have plans to redecorate?
Submitted by enSue.

My home decoration style is of the classic "bunch of stuff in a room"-ism school of thought. (As I've learned there's an -ism word for everything, especially in design.)

While I'd like things to look nice, not having everything matching or in a certain style doesn't bug me as long as it doesn't look completly horrible. I'm more concerned about costs at the moment. I'm usually a function over form kind of person.
