The Biggest Blue Light Letdown…
0I had a message! It must be important…new channel…better software update…what was it??
It was a stupid Metroid Prime marketing channel that played videos. Granted the game looks cool, but why'd they have to send a message out for THAT?
I just realized it's kinda sad when the first thing I think to post about what happend during the day was the blue Wii light and a marketing message…but here we are. I was so excited I even took a picture.
You let me down Nintendo…I'm never going to forget this.

Vintage QotD: Here Comes The Bride
0What was the last wedding you went to? Were you in the wedding?
The last wedding I went to was my sister's wedding (June 30th), and I was in the wedding party (groomsman).
I already talked about this recently, so I really can't say much else…
Uh…they're still married…and um…
I've got nothing.

Vox Hunt: This Album Is All Good
0Audio: Share an album in your collection that's a classic from the first to the last cut (no need to use the skip button). Submitted by Cortadito.
Transatlantic had a very special sound and it carried across the feeling that these people loved to create music together. The album is classic and epic, and don't you dare skip a track since you'll miss 1/4th of the album if you do, considering there's only 4 tracks. The two main 30 minute epics, a short 15 minute piece and a ballad-ish song. Through the entire album, there's interwoven ideas, moving from song to song, connecting each piece to the one that came before it…
I can't say enough good stuff about Transatlantic or this album. Go check it out if you like progressive music, or if you like the later Beatles albums, as all 4 members of the band are huge Beatles fanatics and it shows.

QotD: My Musical Influence
0Which friend or acquaintance most influenced your taste in music?
Submitted by Rev Stan.
To be honest, nobody really did. At least nobody that I know of.
It all started back when an internet radio station called Echo was around. This was before the days of broadband (mostly) in the dark days of the internet. Well…they were kinda like Pandora is now, where they would match up your tastes with other artists and songs that were similar. Occasionally they would throw in a random track, just in case you might like it and start you off on a completely new musical genre.
Well, one day, Echo spit out Dream Theater – Fatal Tragedy, which I liked. I downloaded it from napster (Bad!) and forgot about the band for a while. One day, a couple years later, I listened to it again and really "got" it. After that, I stumbled onto the Mike Portnoy forums and learned about all of this music that I didn't know about before from the forum-goers there. And the rest…is history.
So no one person really influenced my musical taste. It was done by group consensus.
Who Need Z Anyway?
0It appears that the Z key on my keyboard at home is no longer functional. I'm not sure how long it's been like this, but as far as I can determine…it's dead. The thing that's really weird about this is that I'm trying to weigh how much I actually use the Z key against the cost of a new keyboard
It's not like I really use the letter that much, exactly…but what if I suddenly have to type a message about Zebras or something? I'd be sunk!
Maybe it was just taking a vacation to a cooler area because of how hot and humid it's been recently. Yesterday wasn't terrible, but this morning it felt like you could swim through the air in my apartment.
Anyway, I'm off to continue contemplating my Z problem…
QotD: [this is home]
0Where do you consider home? Is it the place you grew up; the place you're currently living? Why is it home?
Submitted by uncagedbird.
Considering I'm currently living only a few houses down from where I grew up, I'd have to say that the entire street feels like home to me.
I think it's mostly due to the familiar surroundings. I've been in this area all my life and I've been seeing the same neighbors, the same houses, the same animals (the community ducks, specifically) since I can remember. Although if I had to pick one specific place that felt like "home" it'd still be my parents house. My apartment feels more like a stepping stone…just a temporary place before moving on to something better, whenever that might be. I've only lived there for 3 years, but I lived at my parents for somewhere around 20.
Make The Drums Stop!
0I learned something new today. My neighbors keep a drum kit in their basement.
Right under my bedroom.
I was taking my shower this morning and all of a sudden, I heard a whole lot of banging from under me. My first thought was the floor was about to collapse and send me and the tub down into the cellar, which would not be a very good thing to happen for obvious reasons. But, considering I hadn't fallen through the floor and the banging noises continued, I determined that it wasn't a structural integrity problem.
And then I heard it…the sound of a cymbal. Little did I know this sound would be haunting me all through the day. As it turns out, my neighbors/landlords have a grandson who seems to be an aspiring musician. I've heard his previous performances on the piano when he's been over to visit before. I especially enjoy his rendition of "Mashing Hands On Keys in B Minor" While the piano was annoying it was nothing compared to what was happening now.
This kid was playing drums. Well, I'm not sure that "playing" is an appropriate word here. He'd get some sort of simple rhythm going on the kick drum/snare and then break into a drum fill which surely consisted of flailing wildly around mashing things. And at the end of this drum "fill"…he would hit the cymbal. He never hit it DURING the song…only at the end. The first time he did it I grumbled a bit, but didn't mind all that much. He didn't play that long, after all.
Cue 30 minutes of silence. And then the Encore started.
The encore was a bad attempt at playing the 20th Century Fox logo music. You know…the stuff that you hear when the logo comes up before movies like Star Wars and such. He was doing ok until about halfway through where the "fill" started again. And as usual, the cymbal hit marked the ending of each set of flailings.
It was at this point I decided enough was enough and left my apartment to do some laundry. When I got back, he was silent, but then about an hour later, after some friends arrived (to have some peace and quiet after fleeing their own place) he started again. And we ran to a nearby park (well, drove actually) to escape.
Little drummer boy better not give up his day job. After we got back from the park he started playing the piano again, which I thought was a welcome change of pace. Then he started "playing" the drums again and I cranked up some music to try and drown him out.
Anyone want to help me burn a set of drums?
PENGUINS!
0I promised penguin pictures from the zoo and, darn it…I'm going to deliver! I forgot my full camera, but I took these using my camera phone. I want a penguin
But since I can't have that…here's some pics of the Homboldt penguins at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse.
