0It's about time I posted an update on the move. For the past 4 days I've been carrying heavy things, loading and unloading boxes and moving fish tanks. It has been an exhausting experience that I'm quite ready to have end.
As of right now, all my stuff is all moved in and mostly somewhat organized. Wassy and Jay have all their stuff moved in but much less organized than my stuff, mostly because I moved everything in all at once and they were moving stuff all weekend due to schedules and stuff. The kitchen and bathrooms are all organized, the living room is about 80% there, but the dining area (or Jay's office area as we have decided it to be) is still a mess with boxes everywhere.
Tonight is the first night where we might be eating something that isn't take out as we finally have a usable kitchen. And today is the first day where my arms and legs haven't been sore from moving all of the heavy furniture stuff Friday.
Still a couple of things that need to be taken care of. We need to get the Time Warner guy in tomorrow evening to set up our cable/internet service and we need to get a maintenance guy up to look at a bunch of little problems we've found with the apartment as we moved in. Mostly the doorbell is semi-busted and one of the outlets in the kitchen won't let us plug anything into it.
So far so good though. I'm quite tired of thinking about move stuff now and I'm hoping things can arrive at some sort of normalcy very soon.
Good Ol' St. Heater Nick
0Well today was the day we got the keys to the new apartment. We being my friends (Wassy and Jay) and myself. The order of the day was to head out there and move a very large mirror into the apartment and hang it up while there wasn't much stuff hanging around in the way. That and hang curtains.
The mirror hanging went well, although it ended up being slightly off center due to the positioning of the studs in the wall. Ah well, it's up there and looks nice. The curtains were more troublesome. Getting everything up straight turned out to be a real pain. But when Jay dropped a screw and I was helping to look for it, saw something in the electric baseboard heater in the living room. I thought it was some sort of mouse for a second then I thought "Hey…is that…santa clause??"
Well… it was.
We're keeping him as the patron saint of the apartment. We have taken his discovery as an omen that this apartment is a good idea. I mean, we're people who enjoy random and how much more random can you get than a Santa in your heater? You never know exactly what you're going to find when you move into a new place.
The biggest thing about tonight though was how much bigger the apartment was than I was thinking it was. We had so much more space to work with than I thought we did…I think things are going to end up being quite nice in there once we get all settled. I'm going to be moving some stuff over tomorrow evening but the big move comes in on Friday where we really move in.
Going to be a busy couple days!
Vox Hunt: Final Four
0March Madness is well underway, so we'd like you to show us who you think is going to the Final Four.
QotD: Making the Band
0If you could to create your own music band, whom would you put in it?
Submitted by Jack Yan.
- Drums - Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree)
I *almost* put Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater in this spot, but I think that Gavin would work out better. He's proven that he's versitile and able to taylor his playing to the song, depending on what the situation calls for. He's also very creative when he lets lose and comes up with a lot of very interesting fills and patterns. - Guitar/Vocals – Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree)
Steven Wilson is going to be playing guitar and singing in the band, with the occasional keyboard part as well. He's just one of the most tallented individuals that's out there today making music and one of the best lyric writers I know of. - Guitar/Vocals – Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth)
Mikael Alkerfeldt will be the second guitarist for the band as well as vocalist, lending both his clean vocals and his growling style for texture, depending on the context of the song. His guitar solos will also be a welcome addition to the group, since they're practically dripping with emotion. - Keyboards – Joe Stote (Former 3)
Joe is…one of a kind. An excellent performer with a huge stage presence. Of course he'll also take some of the percussion duties as well. And since he's currently not with a band, this is probably the only realistic pick I have on here! - Bass – John Myung (Dream Theater)
John Myung is an extremely technical bass player, but he also knows when to put that technicality away and play something that adds to the music. He can fade to the background to provide a foundation or he can play more up front. He's also a very poetic lyricist and I'd be interested to see what he and Steven Wilson would come up with in collaboration.

More Moving Stuff
0Whew….ok, it's been quite a long time since I posted.
And There Was Much Packing
0Busy busy busy! Or at least I was. Not so much anymore.
The last couple days have been spent working on move preparation. I'm trying to get the stuff I don't use quite so often out of my apartment to make it easier to keep clean. So I've managed to box up and relocate most of my books and some spare computer bits that have been hanging around the apartment for a while.
Also got my exercise bike out of my bedroom and things are starting to look a lot emptier and echo-y. It's really starting to sink in that this is going to happen.
Initially I was a bit nervous but now I've come out of that. I really hate change, you see, and this is a pretty big change no matter how you slice it, so for a few days it sorta felt like I was free falling and there was a little bit of panic while everything got put back together in it's proper place. Now I'm looking forward to it.
We just got word that we can move in starting Wednesday next week, so we're probably going to be moving all the big stuff friday and spending the weekend getting everything situated as best as possible. Bah to moving, but I think it'll work out nicely once all the moving is done.
QotD: Roomies!
0What's the best part about living with a roommate? Worst?
Ask me again in a couple months.
Moving Time
0I may be posting very scarcely over the next few weeks. Well, more scarcely than I have been posting anyway.
QotD: First Day of Daylight Savings
0Daylight Savings Time started at 2:00 a.m. today. What's your favorite thing about having more light later in the day?
Little late on this one, but here goes. I like it because I can actually do outdoors-y things! Last year I really enjoyed going on a lot of outdoors type walks when the weather permitted and I really miss being able to do that. Along with bike riding. It was just nice to get out in the fresh air every once and a while and get some exercise.
Soooooon….
