This sounds so dramatic – but I'm going to say it. I'm would DIE if I didn't have a cat in my life. They relieve my stress, make me forget my worries, and often act as a hot water bottle on cold days. I know some people feel that about dogs – but I don't.

I used to not like cats, but then I started spending more time over at my friends and seeing how their cat was and everything. I just really want a cat of my own. But, alas…the apartment forbids it. And plus my place right now is a little small for a cat. Really wouldn't have enough room to run around in.They do seem like very nice little companions.

Um, cats fit anywhere – that's what makes them so great
Well, if you get a hybrid it might not fit well… But I can understand about your apartment rules, your landlord is lucky that you don't just bypass the rules like a lot of other people do.Have you thought about a specific breed you want, or are you just going to pick up what you can get? I watched this really awesome show the other night called "Cats 101" that gave a really good rundown of a lot of cat breeds.

Well, I'd try to bypass the rules but they'd figure it out since I rent just under half of their house…so they'd notice a cat in the window pretty darn quick
I haven't thought of a specific breed or anything as of yet. Moving hasn't been close enough to reality yet for me to start torturing myself as far as planning out exactly what I want. What network was that show on? Maybe I can find it somewhere online. Sounds interesting.

I can understand what you mean by not wanting to torture yourself, just remember that pure breeds are expensive so it might be something you want to save for. Plus if you do want a pure bred cat you'll likely need to "order" one and that'll be some waiting. Here's a link to that show, I really enjoyed it as I thought I knew a lot about cats

I was probably going to get something from the humane society, to be honest. Plenty of good cats and kittens that need a home in there. But I figure having an idea of the various breeds might be helpful so I know what I might be getting myself into (assuming I can figure out what mix the cat I'm interested is)Plus, you don't really hear much about breeds of cats as you do breeds of dog it seems. Thanks for the link! I'll have to check it when I get home.

Cats are the best when they're a little of everything
I don't have any idea what Junior is – but he's the most perfect-ist cat you'll ever meet!Perhaps it's just my experience, but unlike with dogs where the breed is important because of health issues, exercise needs and temperament restrictions – I haven't found anything like that in cats. When I was watching that show they did a run down of health concerns, how well they did with family, and grooming. Most cats were considered low maintenance on all accounts – except for Persians & Sphinxes that is

That's why I want a cat for myself. They basically take care of themselves. Probably going to avoid the odd ones that don't.I enjoy low maintenance pets. Less chance I'm going to forget to do something…
