QotD: Kitchen Essentials
0What are the 10 foods you must have in your refrigerator and/or your kitchen cabinet?
Submitted by Carol.
It's time for everyone to realize how much I really can't cook…
- Ok, to start things off, we need to get the essential lunch / sandwich stuff out of the way. First up, we've got some lunch meat type stuff. Usually turkey. Thin sliced.
- Then, you've got some cheese. Need to have cheese. I've been on a Provolone kick recently, but it can be swiss too.
- Third, Hellmann's Light Mayo. It has to be Light…if it's the reduced fat stuff it's just not the same.
- And to top it all off, bread. The type and brand varies a lot and it depends mostly on what's on sale when I go shopping. Currently it's some store brand Italian bread.
- I need some chips to go with my sandwich as well. My preferred chip is Lay's Stacks, BBQ Flavor, although if they don't have that I'll go with pringles, also BBQ flavored. If they don't have that, I'll usually go for whatever is on sale.
- Now that that's out of the way, I've got some other stuff I usually have. I usually have some sort of frozen pizza on hand for when I don't really feel like doing much in the way of food prep after I get home from work.
- I also have some frozen chicken tenders usually. They alternate between regular and Buffalo style, but the chicken is like a freezer fixture. And it's located right next to the…
- French Fries. Although lately I've been buying onion rings. French fries are essential and go with so many other things.
- Moving away from the freezer, I usually have a couple boxes of Pasta-roni Shells & White Cheddar flavor. I usually end up having those with the chicken.
- Finally, a recent discovery…Oscar Mayer has these microwave hot dogs that are individually wrapped including the buns…they're very good and very quick. They usually go with item number 8: the french fries.
So there you have it, the 10 items I'm usually garunteed to have in my kitchen. I also have cereal and stuff for breakfast, but I ran out of room…

4 Days!!!
0As of the writing of this sentence, there's only 4 days, 11 hours and 19 minutes until the Dream Theater concert in Buffalo.
I'm starting to get within the excitement threshold of seeing possibly my favorite band play live again, even if it is with two openers this time. That's also combined with the fact that I got a 4 day weekend out of it. Well, really 4 and a half because of the fact that I have a company picnic to attend friday afternoon which, to me really doesn't count as "work" exactly. Hey, at least it's outdoors.
Another bit of concert news…I just realized that our second row seats at the Porcupine Tree show (63 days, 11 hrs, 59 mins…) are actually front row. Let me explain…we're sitting in the orchestra pit right below the stage which is oval shaped. We're sitting on the edge of the pit, which, due to the oval shape of the pit itself…we're like…right up next to the stage.
Oh, and other concert news! Trans-Siberian Orchestra just announced their tour dates. Hopefully I'll be able to go see them January 4th. It's a little after when I would normally like to see them perform, but…it's good enough for me to see that awesome stage show again.
