QotD: I Turn My Camera On

0

What kind of camera(s) do you own?

A busted up Canon SD600. It's a really nice camera, but the LCD on mine is currently non functional. Still need to try to see if they'll repair it under warranty. I should take care of that soon…

Sick Day. Blargh.

0

Ughhh. I was home sick today with a horrible, horrible headache. Thankfully it's under control right now, but I've used an awful lot of sick time this year. I need to check and see how much I have left…

This is also the second time this year I've taken a sick day the week after a 3 day weekend. Hmmm…

At least my sick day allowed me to play (during the times when the Motrin held off the headache) some more Odin Sphere, an RPG thingy for the PS2 that I picked up on monday. It has the best graphics I've ever seen on a PS2 game. 2d sprites rock for this kinda thing. That's Gwendolyn over there on the right.

Anyway, I'm feeling much better now, so back to work tomorrow for me. I did miss my Astronomy class tonight though :( Hopefully I can get what we covered from the teacher so I can stay caught up. Summer classes are really hard if you fall behind in them. They move so fast…

QotD: Pants on Fire

0

Tell us two truths and a lie about yourself.

  • I've seen somebody sitting on a toilet (underwater) while scuba diving in a lake.
  • I have four stuffed penguin plushies in my living room. If you count Tux the Linux mascot as a real penguin.
  • I have eaten something containing (non-sauced) tomatoes within the last week.

Can you figure out the lie?

QotD: Weekend Plans

0

What are your plans for the weekend?

Today I'm hanging out around my apartment, watching fish…playing games (Xenogears at the moment)… There's an event I was planning on doing in City of Heroes tonight however I'm feeling kinda blah at the moment, so I'm not sure I want to start something that potentially could have me staying up until 2-3am if things don't go well. I also need to do a little grocery shopping today too.

Tomorrow's plans include going out to the movies with my friends to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3. We saw the second one last night in preparation. Hopefully it's decent. The reviews are kinda iffy on it so far…

Monday (wooo, long weekend!) I'm going out to Syracuse with Wassy to do some music shopping (bwahaha!)

Goodbye Rush!

0

Today I sold my ticket to see rush at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga, NY. It's kinda a sad day, considering I really, really wanted to go see Rush before they, well…die. They're getting up there in age.

Unfortunately, and I didn't realize this at the time, the date of the show happened to conflict with my sisters wedding. So no Rush for me.

At least I was able to get the purchase price of my ticket (plus 50 cents) back from eBay.

Maybe next time guys. If there's going to be a next time that is.

QotD: Favorite Finale

0

What was your favorite TV season finale this year?
Submitted by Kristine.

By far, Heroes. Of course the only other show that I watch is Grey's Anatomy so I don't have much of a comparison really…but there we are. The Grey's Anatomy finale didn't really do much for me. It kinda feels like they might be running out of steam a little. We'll have to see next season I guess.

If you haven't watched it yet for some reason, spoilers to follow. Just a friendly little warning.

Anyway, I thought the episode was really good, although a bit…rushed. It would have been a lot better had they given it 2 hours instead of one,so they could slow down. I didn't really like how the final confrontation with Sylar lasted all of 5 minutes and seemed as if it was just a way of cramming in all of the foreshadowed events that were peppered through the rest of the season.

A lot of people seemed not to really enjoy it all that much for two reasons. They can't figure out why Peter didn't fly himself away and they can't figure out how they let Sylar escape.

The first can be explained, in my opinion of course, because Peter was trying not to explode! I think that might be a little bit distracting…

And as for why Sylar escaped, I figure that in the mayhem that occured after Nathan flew peter up and the explosion with all the people getting shot and such, there was plenty of opportunities for Sylar to drag himself into the sewers unnoticed (which probably isn't really a good idea for him considering he's got that very large puncture wound in his chest…but…still.)

In any case, I can't wait to see where the series goes from here in season 2.

An Interesting Class? Impossible!

0

Last night's Astronomy class was actually interesting. Well, half of it was anyway.

The last half of class we went outside as the sun was going down and spent an hour or so sitting on the ground outside of the building and gazing up at the night sky, identifying stars and planets. It started out that the only thing we could really see was the moon, but then we spotted Venus and Saturn, the big dipper, a couple of the stars from the Leo constellation and Gemini I believe. And a lot of airplanes.

Anyway, it was a lot more interesting actually going outside and just looking at the stars to see what was out there than sitting in class and having the professor tell us about them.

The class is pretty small too, which is fun for this sort of thing since it feels like you can kinda have a conversation with everybody while you're out there.

Musical Surprises

0
Wassy came over last night to hang out and listen to some music, since I've started to introduce her to the kind of things I'm interested in.

The point was for me to get a better idea of what she was interested in aside from Porcupine Tree so I could recommend some stuff to her. We started out with some OSI since I knew she liked that from a sample I sent over, then moved into Chroma Key and back over into Fates Warning. Then a little Transatlantic.

At that point there was really nothing she said she didn't like, so…with great hesitation I pulled out the Dream Theater.

And she actually liked it, which blew me away. I was thinking it was going to be a little too "out there" for her or that she wouldn't like LaBrie's vocals, but she seemed to really enjoy it. I say "seemed" because I don't think it's sunk in.

Although, she did immediately ask about going to one of their shows…which we are. I've got tickets now to the show at SUNY Buffalo on August 20th. Her first concert, my 4th time seeing Dream Theater. Row S, middle of the theater. They're out in support of their new album coming in 2 weeks, Systematic Chaos, which is why it's picture is gracing the top of this blog entry.

I didn't really expect her to like everything I threw at her, but…I guess my musical tastes aren't so weird after all. Or something.

Anyway, I believe she's dragging me CD shopping on monday ;) I'm evil.

Astronomy: Night One

0

Sigh. I went to the bookstore on my lunchbreak yesterday to see about buying the books I need for class. It's something like $92 used (but we'll get back to this in a few minutes) and they didn't have any copies there.

After work I went into class to find out that the book wasn't there because the teacher hadn't ordered it yet. Which means that when they come in they're all going to be new, and therefore the book now costs $128. Oh, and there's a second book with some software attached to it. Argh!

At least the class is interesting so far. The professor is somebody who I've had before, so I knew I'd like her style. She's really into the subject matter and it shows with the amount of effort she put into the class. My only complaint so far was the horrible, horrible videos from the 1980s that she had us watch last night. Mostly boring because they were introductory space stuff which I already knew because of my interest in that kinda thing.

My only complaint is that she's going to keep us there until 9:30 every night because we get to go outside and look at the stars and such. Not a terribly bad thing, exactly. I just prefer to be home a little earlier is all.
