Caught In The Whirlwind
Netflix Instant Watching
Signing into my Netflix account last night, I noticed a new little tab on the menu bar: “Watch Now”
“Woohoo” I said, as I’ve been waiting to try out Netflix’s streaming service since it was announced. I switched over to my Windows box, fired up Internet Explorer and got started.
For some reason, it’s auto-detecting my speed to be in the “basic” category, even though I have a 10mbps connection. Hopefully that changes if netflix gets faster servers or whatever, because I should be getting better quality movies than this.
I watched Dragonheart last night, which is one of my favorite movies from when I was younger. The quality wasn’t bad. Wasn’t great either, but it was watchable. I can’t see myself watching special effects type movies on it, considering there’s no 5.1 sound, but it could be useful if I get the urge to watch something right away that I don’t want to put in the queue and wait for.
Hopefully their selection of TV shows improves too. I can see myself using it more for that than movies.
Overall, a decent experience, but the DVD isn’t dead yet.
