QotD: Happy New Year!

0

How are you ringing in the New Year tonight?

This is going to be kinda boring probably, but tonight I’m going over to my parents for dinner and the traditional New Years Eve celebrations, then they’re coming over here to play the Wii for a bit. My mom said until midnight, but I don’t think she can stay awake for that long personally… We’ll have to see.

I’m not really much of a party person, so it’s not like I had plans to go out or something.

Arm…Hurts!

As mentioned a couple posts back, I went out last night with a couple friends for some dinner and bowling action, which was fun. For the record, Wii Sports bowling does NOT help with real bowling skills. There was this fairly odd person in the lane next to us who mumbled strange things at us. Thankfully he only paid for one game and then left.

My parents seem to be really getting into the whole Wii thing. They called me last night, wonder if I was going to be home so they could come over and play with the Wii some more, even though I told my Mom I had plans already. I guess they’re going to be coming over tonight, possibly, or tomorrow. Or both. I’m not quite sure at this point.

Yay For Outsourced Tech Support!!!

I just got an e-mail invoice from Earthlink saying that I owe them 13.50 for my unlimited dialup account. There’s just a slight problem with this: I don’t have Earthlink dialup, I have a cable modem through them, which I pay for through my local cable bill.

I think this has something to do with the fact that my e-mail address got disabled for some reason and I had to call them up to reactivate it…so the moron customer service person put me down for a month of dialup for some reason.

Oh, and I got a e-mail earlier in the month from them saying that my welcome kit for Earthlink TrueVoice (their Voice over IP thing) would be coming shortly and listing my parents phone number as my new phone line. Luckily, that turned out to be an email that was sent by mistake…but something is seriously messed up over there.

I’m considering just forgetting the $9 a month I save over Road Runner and just switching over. It might be less hastle. And maybe I can even get a lower rate for 6 months or something because I’m a “new” customer ;)

Upcoming Activities

0

After my grueling two days of working this week, It’s time for the weekend with more fun activity type things happening.

Tonight I’m going out to dinner with some friends and then hopefully bowling (assuming it’s not league night like it was the last time we tried to do this ;) ).

Saturday I must clean again, because Sunday my family is coming over again to make use of the Wii. It seems they really enjoy it, which is fine with me because I did spend money on those extra controllers after all. And it makes me clean the apartment. This place has never been this clean for this length of time before.

It’s Quiet…Too Quiet

0

There’s been some talk about a possible roadtrip with a couple friends down to Washington DC in March. I haven’t been on anything that could be termed as a real, live vacation in quite some time so I’m really hoping that this actually happens. I had no idea that there was an International Spy Museum in DC…or, well, anywhere for that matter.

Plans are in the early stages at the moment since I want to see what’s going on with school, but I’m looking forward to it already.

Nothing else that’s really new to report. It’s been a quiet couple days after the whirlwind of activity from the past couple weeks, which leaves me with not much to write about. I’ve just been playing a lot of Zelda for the Wii and Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time for the DS which is a fun, quirky RPG type game. The Mario RPG franchise of games has yet to disappoint me.

Spoiled By Long Weekends

I have to go to work today. Blah! And then I have to work a whole TWO DAYS this week! I’m not sure I can manage…

Long weekends have spoiled me. I honestly can’t remember what I was last working on when I left on Thursday, so…today should be pretty interesting.

QotD: Top 5 In ’06 – Television

0

What were your top 5 TV shows of 2006?

Much like the top 5 movies, I don’t watch 5 TV shows regularly. But…here’s what I do watch:

  1. Studio 60 - I was so scared earlier in the year with talk of this show being canceled. It’s good because it’s not mindless humor and actually requires some thinking to get the jokes. I love it’s fast paced dialog and topical humor. Sometimes the political slant can get a little annoying, but it’s generally not so up front as to be largely noticable. I’m eagerly awaiting the resumption of new episodes in roughly…1 month. Sigh.
  2. Grey’s Anatomy – My Dad hooked me on this show in it’s first season and it just keeps getting better. It’s just fun to watch and see what happens to the main characters and how they deal with it. The medical stuff is also a bonus, but it’s less a show about the hospital aspect than it is about the people with a medical backdrop.
  3. Desperate Housewives – This show is very hit or miss for me. The first season was awesome, the second season was less so, and they seem to have gotten some of the first season feel back for this season. There’s a couple characters that I’m feeling they have no idea what to do with now that their main story arcs have completed. I think it would greatly help the show if some of these characters could be focused on less, allowing more time to be spent where all the action is happening. Maybe they’re going somewhere with it. Who knows?

I also caught a couple episodes of Six Degrees, but it seems like that show is on the verge of cancellation anyway, with it being pre-empted by Men in Trees.

If I Had To Do It All Over Again (Part 2)

0

This was a previous question of the day, but I just thought of another thing that I’d do over again if I could. Going over to my aunts, on my father’s side, for Christmas this year got me thinking about this.

My grandmother (on my fathers side again) passed away in 2001, a couple months after I graduated. At the time, emotionally, I don’t think I was equipped to handle something like that happening. She had been in a lot of pain, so really it was probably a good thing she passed when she did, because she didn’t have to suffer anymore. I remember visiting her house after graduation because she wasn’t able to make it in my cap and gown so that she could see. Even seeing her like that was rough for me.

When she died, like I said, I don’t think that at the time I was emotionally equipped to handle something like that. I didn’t attend her funeral. To be sure…I was grieving, but, I guess I was doing it privately. Looking back on it now, one of my past regrets would be that I never attended her funeral. While I really wouldn’t want to go back and live through that again, now I wish I had done it differently. I know it may have seemed to some like I didn’t care. But…when nobody was around, I could have been described as a wreck. And to this day and, if I have anything to do with it, as long as I live, I still have the graduation card she sent me as well as the last card I received for my birthday, and I’m not one to keep cards forever. But for these two objects, I’ll make an exception. In fact, I just found them in less than 30 seconds of searching, which…given my storage system (also known as the “Pile-O-Junk”), says something I guess.

What brought this all up today was that my Aunt had made some copies of pictures of my grandfather and grandmother. My grandfather passed away when I was very little, so I never really got to know him. But seeing that picture brought back a ton of memories of going over to her house when I was young. I mentally walked myself through the entire house, remembering the fun I had there and what she was like when she was alive.

This year was the sixth Christmas where we didn’t meet at her house and where she wasn’t there. Life moves on, people continue on their way…but it never hurts to take a look back at the people who are no longer a part of our lives…at least in the physical sense.

I’m not looking for sympathy or anything by writing this or anything. It’s just something that I needed to get off my chest. And now it’s off. So I’ll stop typing. Now.

So…Tired

Wow, yesterday was exhausting.

I got a call from my sister at 8:22am. “Santa came! Get over here so we can open presents!” The plan was for me to head over at 9, but I guess she got a little antsy. Fine by me. I head over to my parents house for the ritual cinnamon bun and Christmas gift exchange. I ended up with a bunch of penguin themed kitchen items. Woohoo! Oh, and some cleaning supplies. It’s amazing how much you appreciate this kind of stuff after you move out. I also now have a LARGE stack of games that I need to play, and a pair of Sennheiser HD-595s which are AWESOME. I can’t stop listening to these things.

After the gifts, we hung out at my parents for a couple hours and headed for my apartment after lunch for the Wii party.

That part went really well. First of all, I discovered that I CAN fit 5 people in my apartment without some sort of a pry bar to get them all through the door. We mostly played Wii Sports Bowling, Tennis and Powershots from the training section. I tried introducing Rayman, but I’m not sure they were quite ready for that as far as wrapping their heads around the motion control. Maybe some other time.

The best part was my sister boxing her fiance. They REALLY went at it. My sister won.

We finished up with the Wii (My sister complaining that her arm hurt. I warned her!) and went to my grandmothers to meet with the rest of the family. 5 hours of kids running wild, catching up with everybody and, of course, the traditional Christmas Eve game of Pitch. As usual, we split up into teams, girls against the guys. The guys cleaned up this year.

After all of that I fell into bed around 10:30ish and just got up a few minutes before I started writing this post. This afternoon I’m headed out to my Aunts house to take care of the family stuff for my dad’s side. My parents might be coming back here for a little bit for some more Wii action as well. Not sure on that, we’ll have to see when they call me.
