How many computers do you have in your house?

Oooh, you asked for it. Totaling up everything, I have 5. My naming scheme is centered around the ships from Freespace 2, the best space combat simulation ever produced.

  • My Laptop (Valkyrie). Apple MacBook Pro 1.83ghz Intel CoreDuo with 1GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. This started off just being a standard laptop, but now I’d consider it my main machine for everything except playing games. I find myself doing most of my work/browsing/talking/music playing/whatever on it. I love my MacBook :)
  • Desktop (Aquitaine). Previously my main machine, It’s a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ with 1GB of RAM and a nVidia 6800GT 256MB card in it. It’s used primarily for watching DVD movies (I have a 20″ widescreen LCD attached and a nice set of 5.1 Logitech speakers) and playing games. I used to use it as my everyday use machine until I got my MacBook. I’m due for an upgrade next year when Vista and DirectX 10 come out.
  • My Server (Ravana). I just got this thing back up and running over the weekend after lending out the power supply to a friend of mine. It’s basically the guts of my first computer I ever owned. A Pentium 3 833mhz (upgraded from a P3 533mhz which I still have hanging around here somewhere), 512MB of RAM, the original 20GB hard drive for the Operating System (Linux) and a 100GB hard drive for storage which I really need to upgrade. Been kicking for a while now with 24/7 operation. Pretty amazing actually.
  • My Router (GTVA_command). This computer isn’t actually doing anything right now since I got my D-Link DLG-4300, but it used to be a router computer, running Smoothwall Linux and being the firewall between me and the world. It worked really well, up until I got my Nintendo DS, but it didn’t play nicely with that. So I dumped it. It’s still sitting there though. Via C3 833mhz with either 128MB or 256MB of RAM, 2 network cards, plus the one on the motherboard and a 40GB laptop hard drive. This thing was a real bear to get constructed since I had a faulty motherboard to start off with. Finally after a month of having the parts, the thing actually worked.
  • My old laptop (Pegasus). A dell Inspiron 600m that’s on it’s last legs. It still works OK, but the LCD is getting kinda flaky on it. I don’t really use it for anything these days and I keep it around as a backup.
