QotD: Happy Halloween!

0

Did you dress up today?  See any good costumes?

I’m not really big on Halloween. To me, it’s just another day. If anyone asks what I dressed up as today, I’m going with “office worker”.

Once the whole “free candy!!” thing wore off in my childhood, I just kinda stopped caring about it. I’ve never been really excited about it.

No Air Conditioning…

0

The power is back on. The air conditioning, however, is not. If you’re wondering why this is a problem in late October, well…the room I’m in has about 8 laptops/desktops and 1 server in it. These computers, plus the people, put out a lot of heat, so it could be the middle of winter and without the AC it’d be 90 in here. It’s quite amazing.

Something with the power outage this morning messed up the AC, so now it’s 80 degrees and still climbing. Not sure what happened. The hallway is much cooler than our room here. It’s going to be a looong day.

At least I can actually get stuff done now though

No Power

I came into work this morning and noticed that the hallway is a little darker than usual. I figure somebody forgot to turn the lights on.

Then I get to my desk and notice that the generator is on (my desk is located directly over the generator, so it’s a little loud when it comes on.) Crap. I needed to switch my laptop from the wireless network (which goes down when there’s no power) to the wired, but for some reason I can’t connect to the database server here while on the wired network. So it’s going to be a productive morning for me, I’m sure.

Too…Windy…

0

It’s been incredibly windy out today. The power has gone off twice as a result, which is kinda annoying. I got lucky the first time. I was playing some .hack on my PS2 and had just saved the game. 2 seconds later, the power goes out.

Today was the big Toys R Us Wii preorder thing that my friends were camping out for. They were first in line for it, and they got their preorder, after standing a couple hours outside in the freezing cold wind. They also apparently got caught in the crossfire of the people rushing to buy the new Tickle Me Elmo. Just figured I’d mention what happened since I brought it up earlier.

I went over to my parents briefly today as well. My mom was showing me this Hallmark christmas thing she bought that moves and sings some carol or something. I’m just glad I don’t live there anymore because I know my sister would be running by there every 5 minutes and punching the button to make it sing and dance.

Why are they selling christmas stuff already anyway?? It’s October! I swear, the holiday shopping season comes earlier every year.

QotD: It’s All In The Stars

What’s your sign?  What do you think of astrology and horoscopes?

I’m an Aquarius although I really don’t put much stock in the whole astroloy thing. You can basically make anything fit with a horoscope or some other test which tells you about yourself based on a sign. It can be fun to play around with at times though.

Here’s my horoscope for today:

Sometimes you appear disconnected from reality, but others don’t usually know how far out you really are. Now, as the Moon moves through your sign, you can surprise everyone with your brilliance. You can be the hero by finding a solution to a problem that others couldn’t solve. Don’t hold back. Think big, and trust the original ideas that come to you just in time.

QotD: Well, I’d Never!

What did you think you would never ever do… but did?

Go on a Roller coaster. I’m not a thrill seeking person, really. I don’t generally like amusement park rides that are of the extreme classification.

And then I found myself in Busch Gardens Williamsburg. They’ve got a couple of really nice roller coasters and I was determined, along with my mom, to actually go on one. So we scouted things out. We didn’t want to go on anything where we were dangling, so The Big Bad Wolf and Alpengeist were out. SApollo’s Chariot was also out. Too tall and fast. So we ended up in the line for the Loch Ness Monster.

Little did we know at the time that this coaster involved interlocking loops. My dad and sister who chose not to ride were aware of this fact, but did not tell us until after.

I should have gotten the picture they took. The people in front of us in the car had their hands up and were screaming. My mom and myself were in the back seat with our eyes closed holding on for dear life. The first part of the ride I was watching. The first drop was killer, and I made the mistake of looking out the side when we went through the first loop ( “Why is the ground above me?!?”). It was…interesting.

I probably wouldn’t do something like that again, epically since all the rides are getting taller, faster, more intense. It’s just too much for me. But I did it once. Well twice actually. I was on a wooden coaster at Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. Comet

Oops

I made my first big mistake dealing with the production database at work here. They asked me to change all of the rows in a table that had no value in a certain field to ‘N’. I figured it was simple enough, why bother testing?

Of course then I changed them all to ‘Y’ instead. Oops.

Thankfully they can reverse it (by hand, doh). I figure it had to happen sometime. Might as well be something relatively minor. Of course it didn’t help with the fact that my day is crawling along today…

QotD: My First Flight

0

Do you remember your first flight? Where did you go? Why?
Submitted by Laurel.

I’ve never flown. Ever.

My Mom was always terrified of airplanes, so when we went on vacations, we generally drove to wherever we were headed. The furthest away we’ve gone from the home state of New York was Virginia and Washington DC, and we had to make a stop off in Pennsylvania’s for a night on that one, I believe. It was a while ago.

I’ve got nothing against flying myself (I almost flew down to Florida to meet some of the people I play City of Heroes with), but these day it seems like it’s less hassle to just drive. Well, unless you’re going too far away for that to make sense.

Delivered!

.hack//G.U. was delivered today. Now all need to do is swing by my parents (I send all my large packages there) and pick it up.

I’ll be glad to get something new to play with. Today’s been quite the long, frustrating day, as has been the custom recently. I dunno if it’s really getting frustrating or if it’s just because of the same things grating on me and stressing me out after a while. That probably didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but I’d really rather not get into it in too much detail.

By the way, the friends that are going on the Wii campout on release day keep trying to get me to join them. Ain’t happening! First I’m not crazy, second I don’t have the money for a whole new console system plus games right now. But that’s not going to stop them from trying to convince me ;)

5 more minutes and then I’m out of here.

QotD: Today’s Top 5

0

Books, movies, music; what’s in your top 5 right now?

  1. Porcupine Tree – Stupid Dream I just bought the remastered version of this off of amazon. The one with the DVD-A of the album included. Really nice, but kinda weird in that Porcupine Tree way. If you’re into progressive type stuff and haven’t checked them out, you should.

Steven Wilson does some of the best audio mixes out there. Everything he touches ends up being great it seems.

  2. The Dragon Reborn by Robert JordanBook 3 in the Wheel of Time series. I’m really digging this book so far. Like I’ve mentioned on previous occasions, I’m not sure why I didn’t read these before I did, but now I’m making up for lost time. From what I hear the series is best in the beginning and then kinda drags out a bit, but we’ll see…
  3. Walk The Line (DVD)I watched this last night after renting it from Netflix. Johnny Cash was an amazing man, and this movie lived up to his reputation. I had no idea about what he went through in his life and it made me respect him a lot more after watching it. The movie was incredibly well done, great script, awesome actors. I highly recommend it.
  4. Final Fantasy IV AdvanceOne of the classic RPGs of all time remade for the Gameboy Advance (and by definition, my DS as well) I think I’m almost done with it. It’s been a fun, classic-like ride so far

I can’t think of a number 5 right now though, maybe I’ll come up with something later
