STGC Fragfest 06: Day 1
0I’m about to head back into the LAN party after going home last night to sleep in a real bed, but so far things are going pretty well. Met up with some old friends I hadn’t seen in a long time, had some fun playing games, hanging out, etc.
I had to cut out earlier than I wanted to due to my coughing fits. I figured it’d be a good idea to go home and sleep instead of actually hacking up a lung.
Off to Dunkin’ Donuts and then back to the party.
QotD: Surprise!
0Do you like surprises?
Good surprises yes. Bad surprises no. I’m horrible if I know there’s a surprise coming but don’t know what it is. One of my friends loves teasing me like that because she’s evil
I can’t deal with knowing that there’s a surprise coming and trying to figure out what that surprise is going to be. If I know something is going to happen, I like knowing all the details.
Sweet, Sweet NyQuil!
0I had NyQuil for the first time last night. I’ve had trouble sleeping the past couple nights due to this stupid cold that just won’t go away. So I decided to be a little more proactive about things and bought some NyQuil cough in order to try and help with this stupid cough that just won’t go away.
It’s an interesting experience
I did sleep through the night though which is a plus. I really, really hope I beat this thing by tomorrow (yeah right…) because that’s the start of the mutli-day lan party thing and I’m really looking forward to it. I guess I’ll just have to bring lots of cough drops. LOTS of cough drops.
As far as my current state of being…I’ve got a headache again (this is getting old), and the previously mentioned cough, but otherwise I’m OK. I’ve got tomorrow off work, so that should help some.
QotD: All My Pets
0How many pets have you owned in your lifetime? Tell us about them.
Submitted by jennajellopy.vox.com.
I’m not big on pets. I don’t get along well with animals since I always think they’re going to rip my throat out or something.
I’ve had four pets in my lifetime, one of them was before I could really remember it, so that doesn’t count.
The first one I can remember is Nikki. She was a Samoyed…very shaggy white fur. She was an older dog when we got her, which means she was pretty calm. I really liked her since she just kinda sat there with you, happy to just hang out and not trying to run all over the place and jump on people. We had to put her down due to some disease…I forget what happened at this point. But that was the only time I’ve cried due to the death of a pet. Nikki was an awesome dog.
The second pet we had after that was a cat. I can’t for the life of me remember the name of the cat but she became my nemesis. The years that we had that cat were terrorizing for me. She was a little ball of energy, always running around, jumping on things, scratching stuff…I stayed mostly in my room with the door shut all the time, just so I could avoid her. She had a habit of running up to me as if she was going to leap on me, just so I’d dive for cover and she could take my chair. She also snuck up behind me one time behind some curtains and started whacking me in the back of the head. I was not amused. Eventually, after much deliberation, we gave her back to the humane society since things obviously weren’t working out…
Pet #3 was Kobe. A little puppy when we got him (like the cat, also my sisters idea). I hated this one too. Ran around too much, was generally a pain in the butt and loved to jump all over everything. After my sister started going out with her current finance, we gave the dog to them because she was over there more than she was here and they could honestly take care of the dog better than we could.
Sigh. I miss Nikki. Every other pet I’ve had has been a complete disaster. I’ve thought about maybe getting a cat at some point, maybe trying that again. We’ll see…I can’t have pets in my apartment right now anyway
QotD: I’m Grateful For…
0Let’s make a list. What are 20 things in your life that you’re grateful for?
Inspired by wyndslash.vox.com.
20?!? Ok…here goes…
- My Mom. Kinda corny I know but She’s always been there for me when I needed it, even though we’ve always never seen eye to eye on a lot of things as I was growing up. There comes a point where you realize that your parents really do know more than you do
- My Dad. My dad can always be counted on to make me laugh, even in the strangest circumstances. Comfort through humor I guess. And just like my mom, he’s there when I need him and willing to help. I guess I’m trying to say I’m grateful to both of my parents. (But this is a 20 item list, so I have to expand a bit
) - Friends. I’m very grateful for my friends. Those people who enjoy hanging out with me for some reason, even though I’ve been a moron in the past (yes, I’m still beating myself up over that)
- Computers. My hobby and my line of work. They put bread on the table and let me have some relaxation time.
- Music. A world without music is, to me, a world without life really. Another corny reflection I suppose. But music is an important part of my life…not making it, although someday I’m really hoping to learn how to play an instrument of some kind (I’m thinking piano/keyboard at this point), but just being a consumer is an amazing experience if you find the right things to listen to, full of emotion and thought. Which leads me to..
- iPods. letting my carry music around wherever I go.
- Ritz Chips. A healthier alternative to potato chips. Mmm…Ritz Chips.
- My relative health. I’m sick at the moment, but generally in good shape, and better off than some others.
- My Job. I may complain sometimes, but it pays the bills and lets me have some fun on the side. Much like the computer listing above, now that I think about it
- The fine individuals over at X Syndicate
- The fine individuals over at Cryptic Studios for making City of Heroes, a place where I spend a good majority of my free time.
- My Sister. As much as we fought growing up, we’re still pretty close. I’m grateful that we can go to the renaissance festival every year and have fun.
- Bonnie Churcher. Or Mrs. Churcher. She was a, well, sort of teacher in my middle school days, teaching the Gifted and Talented program at my school. She really helped me get through some rough times as well as finding ways to give me an outlet for my creativity. I’m not sure I’d be the person that I am today without her influence.
- The Internet. Enough said.
- Penguins. For being Penguin-y
- My Laptop. I love my MacBook Pro. Might be superficial, sure, but it’s my laptop and it was a good purchase.
- Netflix. Letting me catch up with all the movies I should have watched but never did, all without worrying about return dates.
- Electricity. Things would be boring without it.
- Freedom. The freedom to live my life how I choose to live it, within reason of course. Not everyone is as lucky, nor have they been in the past. And all of the recent stuff in the news about government surveillance programs makes me appreciate this even more.
- Books. Gateways into other worlds, times and places. Computer games and TV can try to replace it, but there’s nothing like laying down on the sofa and diving into a good book.
The MPAA just doesn’t get it…
0I got my most recent DVD from Netflix today. Scored the Fantastic Four movie which I didn’t see in theaters when it came out. It was decent…I was expecting a lot worse. But that’s not the important part.
I put the DVD in and start playing it and the first thing that pops up is an ad. It’s not just any ad though. It’s one of those commercials about how downloading movies is illegal and bad and you should never do it ever. Think about this for a second. A commercial about illegal movie downloading…on a DVD. One would assume if you’re watching the DVD that you didn’t download it illegally! Just a hunch and all.
I think the MPAA is marketing to the wrong people.
QotD: Right Before I Doze Off
0What’s the last thing you usually do or think about before you fall asleep?
Some days I read a little from a book until I become too tired to actually read anything effectively. Other days I grab my iPod and listen to music until I fall asleep. It really depends on my mood at the time. I just can’t climb into bed and fall asleep though, unless I’m really tired. I need to do some sort of pre-bedtime activity to mentally prepare myself for sleep I guess would be the right term.
A buffer zone, if you will.
Cold Journal: Day 6
0Should I be worried if I hack up a lung? The headache from yesterday seems to be gone (but it caused me to skip class…oh well), however it’s been replaced with a hacking cough. Hopefully this clears up by friday, since I’m going to be going to a LAN party, which I’ve mentioned before.
I guess my headache yesterday wasn’t helped by the fact that I wasted almost my entire day at work doing something and then finding out that what they told me to do wasn’t what they needed after all. And I’m pretty sure they knew what they needed when they told me what to do originally. And as of 5PM yesterday, I’m still not entirely sure that they need things to work the way I set them up. That battle is still to come for today.
Needless to say, it’s incredibly frustrating for me to spend all day working on something only to have someone tell me that that’s not how they need it done…even though that’s how they told me they needed it done the day before. I hope they don’t wonder why it’s taking me so long to take care of the other stuff they have assigned to me…
